One of the greatest hard rock bands ever, Van Halen have sold more
than 50 million albums worldwide, crowning their amazing career
with this year's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
With their 1978 eponymous debut, Van Halen simultaneously rewrote
the rules of rock guitar and hard rock in general. Guitarist Eddie
Van Halen redefined what electric guitar could do, developing a
blindingly fast technique with a variety of self-taught two-handed
tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and effects that mimicked the
sounds of machines and animals. It was wildly inventive and over
the top, equalled only by vocalist David Lee Roth, who brought the
role of a metal singer to near-performance art standards with his
wild flair for showmanship. Together, they made Van Halen into the
most popular American rock & roll band of the late '70s and
early '80s, and in the process set the template for hard rock and
heavy metal for the '80s.

Mechanical Animals is Marilyn Manson's third full-length album,
released on September 15, 1998. It was the #1 selling album on its
first week of release, the first of Marilyn Manson's career. The
album is a concept album, similar to its predecessor, Antichrist
Superstar. Four singles were released off the album: "The Dope
Show," "Rock is Dead," "I Don't Like the Drugs (But the Drugs Like
Me)," and, only released promotionally and with a video, "Coma
White." This album virtually rebuilt the band and gave it more of a
Glam Rock persona.

Extreme is the first studio album of Boston funk-metal band
Extreme, released on March 14, 1989. Despite being released on a
major label, the album did not sell very well and produced two
singles: "Kid Ego" and the radio-only "Play With Me". It would not
be until their next album, Pornograffitti, that the band would
become well known. Musically, the record is dominated by muscular
metal guitar riffs, often with funky, syncopated timing, and
incendiary, high-speed metal solos.
