This edition has been updated with a view to the new advancements
made in the field of medicine and homeopathic therapeutics. With
the advent of new diagnostic tools and techniques medicine has
evolved into yet another dimension, which made it necessary to
include all the advancements in this edition. But it was done
keeping in view the needs of students thereby staying away from
unnecessary irrelevant information that just adds to bulk of the
book.
This is one of the finer ways of understanding the distinct nature
of each remedy and is also a step towards reducing the probability
of error in our prescriptions. This work is one of classical works
on comparison of drugs for their action on various organs and
conditions. The books has comparisons at various levels beginning
from differential of remedies for various conditions, comparisons
of remedies which usually come up together for various conditions,
comparisons of remedies of same stock where different remedies of
same group have been discussed, comparisons of allied remedies and
a last chapter on therapeutic hints for bed-side reference. It's a
worth read and is like preparing for a sure-shot prescription.
This book traces the genesis, principles and practice of
homeopathy, and discusses the reasons for its enduring popularity.
Two hundred years ago, medicine had little to offer except blood
letting and the administration of violent purgatives - practices
which shortened the course of illness by hastening the death of the
patient. Largely in reaction to what he correctly saw as the
brutality and ineffectiveness of the medicine of his day, the
eighteenth century German physician Samuel Hahnemann developed a
system of therapeutics that he termed homeopathy. Ironically, while
modern medicine has changed beyond recognition, homeopathy, with
its roots in alchemy and metaphysics, continues to be practiced
precisely as it was in Hahnemann's day. Readers of this book will
enjoy the story of homeopathy and its almost magical attraction,
whilst learning much from the authors' rational and scientific
discussion of the biological, chemical and psychological questions
that this treatment raises.
As there was a great need for Materia Medica which would give
complete knowledge of the uses, effects, mode of preparation,
physiological and pathological action of our remedies. Therefore, W
H Burt designed and arranged a Materia Medica where one can readily
find what a drug is, where it is obtained, how it is prepared for
medicinal use, how it acts upon the human organism, what tissues it
specifically acts upon, how it affects them, how much quantity of
the drug is to be taken to produce certain results and what are its
characteristic therapeutics. There is set pattern followed
throughout the book so as to make the understanding of all the
drugs easy. This is a complete symptom register of provings.
This book covers the detailed and extended sympmatology of some
important remedies including sarcodes, nosodes and imponderabilia.
It covers 16 remedies and includes the proving of X-ray, magnets,
electricity. Each remedy starts on mental generals and ending with
general symptoms. Division of each remedy is according to head to
toe distribution. It provides arrangement of all the characteristic
(keynotes) symptoms which have been proved and verified. In each
remedy a brief account of prover and proving has been illustrated.
The symptoms are unaltered in substance and language of remedies
unchanged. It is precise and comprehensive. It features more
extended symptomatology of nosodes, sarcodes and imponderabilia. It
presents characteristic keynotes symptoms which have been proved
and verified. Symptoms are arranged in such a manner that they
follow each other in a logical sequence, so that no symptoms are
lost to the reader even on casual reading. It is useful for
students as well as to practitioners of homeopathy.
Boenninghausen's contribution to homeopathic science and literature
was made between the years 1828-1946. Originally published in 1908,
this book was out of print for a long time. Owing to its demand
amongst students and practitioners this edition has been published.
