"I ripped through I Fear For This Boy like a train, snorting with
laughter and delight as I rattled along, pulled by the power of
Fennell's unique story-telling genius.... I can't recommend the
ride highly enough." - Stephen Fry Named 2022 Book of the Year by
Spectator World Theo Fennell's picaresque journey from the depths
of financial despair to the glittering celebrity world of the rich
and famous is a comic classic comparable to Three Men in a Boat or
Bill Bryson's The Thunderbolt Kid. Despite the occasional success,
disasters and failures dominate his business life. Nonetheless his
jewellery has brought pleasure to thousands and this book will
bring pleasure to millions.
Why has jewellery and body adornment often been marginalized in
studies of modernist art and design? This study explores the
relationship between jewellery, modernism and modernity from the
'jazz age' to the second world war in order to challenge the view
that these portable art forms have only a minor role to play in
histories of modernism. From the masterworks of the Parisian
jewellery houses to the film and photography of Man Ray, this study
seeks to present jewellery in a new light, where issues of
representation and display are considered to be as important in the
creation of a modern 'jewellery culture' as the objects themselves.
Drawing on material from museums, archives, contemporary journals,
memoirs, literary and theoretical texts, this study shows how the
emergence of modern jewellery began to seriously question
conventional notions of body adornment.
This book is a journey through the sparkling world of the iconic
Maison Boucheron, which has championed a sensual, chic, modern, and
independent form of femininity for over a century and a half. The
Boucheron universe-from its aesthetic vocabulary to its sources of
inspiration, its artistic distinctiveness, its workshops, and its
creative research-is explored through images from the company's
archives, drawings, outstanding jewels, and a photographic
portfolio of unique pieces created specially for this anniversary
volume. This richly illustrated book, which features inserts on
paper of various textures, showcases not just stunning jewels but
also the skills of Boucheron's jewelers-whose talented hands create
the dreams. The secrets of the workshop are revealed in a
step-by-step presentation of the various stages in creating a
finished gemstone. Here is every facet of a jewelry boutique that
remains true to its award-winning heritage as it reinvents itself
for the future.
"When I am working with colours, I feel like a painter. When I am
working with metal, I feel like a constructor. And when I am
working with toys, I feel like a child." (Felieke van der Leest).
The work of Dutch jewellery and object artist Felieke van der Leest
(born in 1968) expresses the very special affection that she has
for animals. With unbridled fantasy she creates pieces that
ostentatiously, colourfully and playfully revolve around her little
friends. She combines techniques used in textile work, such as
crochet, with valuable metals and plastic toy animals. Within the
international art jewellery scene she has developed her own special
language with which she narrates intelligent and witty stories with
her animal protagonists; her pieces inevitably conjure a smile upon
the faces of those who view them. Characteristic for Van der Leest
is the joy in her work, which is ever present yet sometimes carried
off into childhood. Serious themes in her work are also expressed,
including environmental protection and human approaches to animals.
The current publication comprises jewellery and objects by the
renowned artist from 1996 to the present.
Beautiful beadwoven jewelry that is convertible, reversible, or
interchangeable.
A spectrum of 16 projects form "collections" of convertible or
reversible jewelry organized by technique or beaded component. Each
design collection introduces a particular technique in an easy
project and then builds upon the concept by adding more beadwork or
making small changes in bead count and placement. More advanced
projects in each collection then combine additional bead stitches
and techniques.
Author Lisa Kan is known for her elegant and feminine beadwoven
jewelry that often features flowers, leaves, faceted crystals, and
other romantic flourishes. Now she applies her trademark style to a
jewelry collection based upon beaded elements that evolve and morph
into more complex designs. While Lisa uses a range of typical
beadweaving stitches in these projects, she also incorporates
simple wirework techniques, such as using chain and wire-wrapped
loops, to enhance her beadwoven jewelry.
This new title in the bestselling Ultimate series reveals all the
techniques you need to begin beading. All the main crafts that use
beads have been brought together in one book. From materials,
methods and jewellery projects, this book has you covered. This new
title in the bestselling Ultimate series reveals all the techniques
you need to begin beading - all the main crafts that use beads have
been brought together in one book. The first chapter takes a brief
look at the different ways of working with beads and covers the
tools and basic techniques you will need to get started, as well as
taking a detailed look at the ready-made beads available and how
they are best used. The following chapter covers making beads in
several different materials; although ready-made beads are easy to
find, making your own can be very easy and is the ideal way to add
a unique personal touch to your work. It also includes a section on
using found materials as unusual beads. The chapter on bead
jewellery covers basic jewellery making techniques and then moves
on to threading ideas, and how to incorporate beads with different
materials and techniques to make more unusual pieces. In the
wirework chapter you will learn how to use wire and beads together
for more than just jewellery - this section also covers ideas for
decorative items and cardmaking. Bead looming and weaving are
traditional techniques for creating closely beaded work, which can
be used for everything from vintage-look decorative straps to
ethnic bracelets. Beads can also be worked in to knitting and
crochet projects as you work; all the basic techniques for doing
this are included in chapter 5, along with some unusual beaded
stitches to try. The final chapter on beaded embroiderycovers the
different ways to combine beads and fabric or thread, from how to
add a few random beads for a little sparkle to creating luxurious
beaded fabrics or heavily beaded fringing.
30 members of the international studio jewellery scene present
their latest works. A valuable contribution to the positioning of
jewellery in the arts. Karen Pontoppidan (b. 1968), Curator and
Professor of Jewellery and Devices at the Munich Academy of Fine
Arts, invites 30 international artists to the annual jewellery
exhibition at Die Neue Sammlung - The Design Museum to present
contemporary positions in studio jewellery. The publication
SCHMUCKISMUS reveals that artists of this medium of expression no
longer start from the mere decoration of individuals. Instead
jewellery becomes a platform for discourse on cultural norms and
values. Reflecting less on themselves as individuals, this new
generation of artists is concentrating more on issues affecting
society as a whole, such as ecology, consumer society or feminism.

An item of jewellery is traditionally thought of as an ornament and
decoration, a useless object, with no particular function or use,
an embellishment that has no practical purpose. This book
investigates the evolution of functional jewellery from the past to
present day, while the three prestigious introductory articles by
Alba Cappellieri, Paola Venturelli and Elisabeth Fischer show how
jewellery has always played a functional role, especially in regard
to clothing, throughout the ages. The various functions of
jewellery are then defined by the projects of young international
designers, finalists in the Next Jeneration Jewellery Talent
Contest, in an exhibition under the curatorship of Susanna Testa.
Functional Jewellery is a valuable tool for understanding the
complexity and beauty of jewellery, even in ordinary, everyday
gestures, like pinning the edges of a cape, buttoning a coat,
styling hair or protecting nail varnish. Text in English and
Italian.

Linda MacNeil: Jewels of Glass is the first in-depth monograph to
explore the development of leading American jeweller Linda
MacNeil's jewellery and her contribution to late twentieth- and
twenty-first century jewellery. MacNeil has inserted her voice into
contemporary American jewellery as an innovator transforming glass
into proxies for precious gemstones. She and her work have
straddled the fields of Studio Glass and Studio Jewellery. A
pioneer over her forty-and-counting-year career, she has united
glass with metal and, recently, with precious gems. Exploring
materiality and methodology, she uses historical precedent as a
jumping off point to make stunning, wearable jewellery. This
scholarly study presents approximately fifty of MacNeil's most
significant pieces. Davira S. Taragin's essay interweaves MacNeil's
biography with discussions of the development of her aesthetic.
Noted jewellery historian Ursula Ilse-Neuman contextualises
MacNeil's achievement within the art jewellery movement in general
and the use of glass in jewellery over the centuries.
Welcome to a celebration of alternatively designed wrist- and
pocket watches, which honors innovative craftsmanship within the
world of modern horology. The 150 different brands featured in this
unique book each have a double-page spread dedicated to rare,
specially selected timepieces. Featured manufacturers include Patek
Philippe, Jaeger LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, Chopard, Tag
Heuer, and Hublot. There is also a broad selection of avant-garde
watchmakers like MB & F, Urwerk, and DeBethune. The design and
technical information of each watch, ranging from simple to
elaborate, is described in this lavish showcase of mostly high-end
watch brands. A wristwatch made entirely of wooden parts, a
timepiece designed after a Ferrari engine, and other one-of-a-kind
movements, are just a few examples of the stunning variety of
alternatively conceived men's and unisex watches. Many have not
appeared in print before. This collection should appeal to both
watch lovers and aficionados of good design.
Lo que hay en estas paginas Los cuatro libros de la serie
Creatividad Inicio Rapido son principalmente fotos de mi trabajo en
metal (oro, plata y piedras semipreciosas), madera (maderas
preciosas y piedras semipreciosas) y fibra (tecnica de bargello
para tapices murales y quilts para cama) entre los anos 1975-2012,
con la intencion de darle ideas para su propio trabajo. Hola,
gracias por su interes en mi trabajo. Me diverti mucho creandolo, y
ahora me estoy divirtiendo mucho compartiendolo. Me imagino que se
podria decir que entre al trabajo artistico por la puerta trasera.
Mi educacion formal fue en el area de la Psicologia
Clinica...Universidad Bradley, B.S., 1965, y M.A., 1969. Pero
incluso de nina queria ser joyera. Siempre me fascinaron las
piedras bonitas. Se las arrancaba a las joyas de fantasia y las
almacenaba en una pequena y peluda caja de terciopelo verde forrado
en algodon, fantaseando acerca de si eran o no autenticas.
