The Swift was a pilot boat at the beginning of the 19th century in Virginia, USA. Their technical features led the great naval powers of the time to enlarge them creating the famous Baltimore Clipper class.
This helicopter, designed by Bell at the end of the fifties, is still in service to-day in its newer and later versions. It is by far the most widely used rotating wing aircraft the world has seen. The Huey was extensively used during the Vietnam conflict by the U.S. Forces, mainly in support and attack sorties equipped with various armament. Thanks to its reliability and robust construction the UH-1 was quickly aquired by the armed forces of many countries (among others Italy, Japan, Sweden, and Holland). UH-ls remained in service until the end of the seventies and were then substituted by its more modern and sophisticated versions. Technical data: Fuselage length: 11.70m
The AH-64 Apache can be considered the most famous attack helicopter in history. It was designed to operate on the front line and to perform anti-tank, anti-helicopter, assault and close support missions in “all weather” conditions and in any operating environments. The AH-64D Longbow is the upgraded version with and increased offensive capability and the adoption of advanced target acquisition systems. The “Longbow” is characterized by the AN/APG-78 radar, housed in the radome located above the main rotor. It raised position enables target detection and use of missiles, as the anti-tank Hellfire, while the helicopter is hidden behind hills, trees or buildings and out of enemy sight. The main armament is the 30 mm M230 Chain Gun installed under the cabin. The AH-64D is able to load, in its four pylons on the stub wings, a significant variety of offensive weapons as rockets and missiles.
Tamiya acrylic paints are made from water-soluble acrylic resins and are excellent for either brush painting or air-brushing. These paints can be used on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, plus all of the common model plastics. The paint covers well, flows smoothly, and can be blended easily. Prior to curing, paint can be washed away with plain water.
When airbrushing make sure to use any of the following Tamiya thinners: 81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
X designated colours have a glossy finish while XF designated colours are flat finish.
The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
The paint can be also thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner. Using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner will yield faster drying results and a harder finish.
For better paint brushing results use Tamiya Paint Retarder (87114) for a smoother brushstroke free finish.
The Short Sunderland was one of the most famous seaplanes of World War II. It’s came into service at the end of 1938 to equip the Royal Air Force squadrons of Coastal Command. The Sunderland Mark III, introduced on the end of 1941, turned out to be the definitive Sunderland variant, with a huge number of units built. The Mk. III can be considered one of the most effective and successful weapons to counter the German U-Boots threat during the Battle of Atlantic. The flying boat patrol bomber Sunderland Mk III has been decisively improved, compared to the previous versions, with a revised hull configuration and the adoption of new patrol and submarines search equipment. Even the offensive load, which could included bombs, mines and depth charges, has been increased .The reliable 1,065 Hp Bristol Pegasus radial engines guaranteed a top speed of 336 Km/h and a range, essential feature to perform successfully sea patrol and research duties, of 2,800 km.
The Lancia Stratos HF is, without any doubts, a reference icon of Italian automotive production during the ‘70s. The Italian sport car, produced for a short period of time, has become famous for its innovative design, its technical solutions and, above all, for the success achieved in rally competitions. Lancia Stratos won, for the 1974, 1975 and 1976 the World Rally Championship and a lot of Italian and European titles. In terms of mechanical lay out, it adopted the 6 cylinders V engine characterized by a displacement of 2,418 cc, and the rear-wheel drive transmission. Its unique and nice design is, even today, an attractive dream for all fans of the automotive history.

The Special Air Service Regiment is one of the most famous Units in the
British Army, though it is one of the youngest, dating back to 1941.
The short period since the SAS came into being is packed with action,
first in W.W. II and since in many small "cold war" activities in which
Britain has been involved. The SAS has a history of almost continuous
combat action of one kind or another. By the nature of its activities
since W.W. II, when for operational reasons its work has not been
widely publicised, all sorts of legends have grown up - some of them
false- about what it actually does.
In essence, the function of the SAS has not changed greatly since it
was established. It is a small, highly mobile, highly trained force
able to carry out surveillance, reconnaissance or attack missions.
The first use of the name "Special Air Sercive Regiment" goes back to
1940 when it was given to the first troops selected for parachute
training. However the name of this Unit was soon changed to the
Parachute Regiment, forming the backbone of Britain's airborne forces.
It was in the Middle East that Lt. David Stirling, a Scots Guards
Officer serving with No.8 Commando, had the idea of forming a small
"airborne commando", which could strkie at the enemy from behind,
attack supply dumps, airfields, and other important centres, cause the
maximum damage and confusion and then melt away into the desert. The
conception was that the small attack force would be dropped at night,
well clear of the target area, strike, then make good their escape
accross the desert. They would rendezvous with the Long Range Desert
Group and make their way back.
Approval was given for such a force, and Stirling picked volunteers
from Commandos and other Units. The Unit was named "L Detachment SAS,
Brigade", mainly to confuse the enemy, who, knew that this name had
been given to paratroops training in England and might suppose that
parachute battalions had now been sent to the Middle East.
During the summer 1941 the SAS unit undertook intensive training,
particularly in parachuting and desert survival, and experimented with
types of demolition explosive. The first raid, in November, 1941 was
not a success due to high winds and poor weather, which dispersed the
men during the parachute drop.
A more precise way of getting to the target was needed and one obvious
way was to use the L.R.D.G. Trucks as a way of carrying the SAS to a
dropping-off point where they could attack, then rejoin the L.R.D.G.
patrol for return to base. The L.R.D.G. meanwhile carried on their
normal task, the SAS men going as "passengers". A series of very
successful operations followed, and by early in 1942 the SAS had become
a force to be reckoned with.
Stirling, by now Major, designed the Regiment's famous winged dagger
badge with its motto "Who Dares Wins" and this was worn instead of the
badges of the Units from which they had volunteered.
For a series of raids in the spring of 1942 the SAS acquired their own
30 cwt. trucks similar to the L.R.D.G.
In the summer of 1942, the Jeep was available and from then the SAS
acted more independently carrying out many sorties with its own armed
Jeeps. Tamiya Kit MM-133 is a replica of one of the Jeeps, and is
characteristic of the type of raiding vehicle, bristling with guns and
packed with sotres and ammunition, that the SAS has used ever since.
The end of the campaign in the Western Desert saw the SAS become the
1st special Air Service Regiment, and it went on to operate in Italy.
Meanwhile, further Regiments had been raised.
SAS men also aided various partisan forces in Eastern Europe, including
the Albanians. Almost every counter insurgent operation since has
involved the SAS. Training is tought, and the conditions of entry are
extremely stringent.
Up to the early 60's the Jeep remained the principal vehicle, since
then the ubiquitous Land Rover has been employed. Since 1970 the SAS
has used a more refined conversion of the long wheel base Mk II, as
depicted in this kit. This version lacks windscreen and side doors, but
carries mounts for two general purpose machine guns.
Normal crew is three: driver, commander (and front gunner), radio
operator (and rear gunner). Sometimes a fourth man is carried.
3 smoke candle dischargers are mounted at each corner of the vehicle
and special equipment includes a spotlight, pioneer tools, stowage
locers, and a rear tailboard extension which is used to carry stores:
sand channels are another item, but other equipment, such as a radio
set, is fitted depending on operational requirements. With extra fuel
tanks the vehicle has a road range of 1,100 miles and weighs 3 tons
fully stored and equipped. while the Land Rover is the standard patrol
vehicle, SAS Units may employ other vehicles as conditions demand. In
desert operations the SAS Rovers are painted to suit the terrain, a
sand-pink, which has led to the nickname "Pink Panther" being applied
on occasion.
Tamiya's Spray-Work Airbrush Set which came out in 1988 was well received for its easy use and effectiveness when spraying camouflage and gradation patterns. It has however now evolved to the next level. The compressor now comes in convenient case form, and operating noise has been considerably reduced. This new set also features improved spray stability and control. With a nozzle diameter of 0.3mm, beginners should find the airbrush easy to use. From 2mm-thin lines to base coat, this set can be used with ease to paint a variety of surfaces. Compressor uses a re-chargeable 7.2V Battery Pack (Sold separately).

On the 21st of March 1780, The young Marques de La Fayette embarked on the Hermione, setting sail for America to fight alongside the American insurgents in the struggle for their independence. Two years earlier, at the Rochefort Arsenal, in a building berth close to the Corderie Royale, work had begun on the Hermoine, a light 12-pounder frigate, over 65m long, weighing in at more than 1,200 tons and with a sail surface of over 1,500m2 spread on the three masts. The Hermoine was built from plans drawn up by the engineer-shipbuilder Chevillard l'Aine.

The German medium tank Pz.Kpfw. IV was the most produced German tank of the Second World War, it was in production from 1937 to 1945, and underwent several steps of improvement . Ausf'hrung (Mark) H is one of the better known variants and one of the more interesting ones. Due to typical protection skirts (Sch'rzen) mounted on the sides and the perimeter of the turret, the tank has acquired a typical look and was often mistaken by Soviet soldiers as the heavier T-VI "Tiger". The resemblance was so close that for a long time in the Soviet Army, this tank had the designation "Tiger" type 4. On the Eastern front, Ausf. H made its debut during the operation "Citadel" (Battle of "Kursk") and played a crucial role in the events that followed. The Panzer IV became the mainstay of the German Panzer divisions. It should be noted that the Panzer IV H was at that time the only weapon able to fight Soviet T-34's anfd KV-1's. The 1943 introduced Tigers and Panthers were not yet available in high enough in numbers to make an impact on the front .
At the end of World War II, new tanks with strong armor, Tiger and Panther, appeared in German tank units. To fight them, it was necessary to arm the American Sherman tanks with a stronger cannon instead of the former 75mm cannon. The result was an M4A3 (76) W with a 76 mm cannon. Another attraction was the special "wet" ammunition. In such tanks, water was mixed with the antifreeze mixture and the corrosion inhibitor in the spaces between the shells in the containers. The risk of detonation in the event of an enemy intervention or fire was therefore much lower. Production of the M4A3 (76) W variant lasted from March to December 1944, during which time 1925 such tanks were built.
