The National Singing Programme Sing Up was officially launched in
November 2007 and a team from the Institute of Education,
University of London were appointed early that academic term to
undertake a research evaluation of key elements of the Programme.
One key component of the UK Government's National Singing Programme
Sing Up (produced by Youth Music in partnership with Abbot Mead
Vickers, Faber Music and The Sage Gateshead) is to ensure that
children's singing development is fostered by adults who have
appropriate musical knowledge, skills and understanding. Its stated
role is to: 'deliver inclusive, learner-centred training for
leaders singing with primary-age children in 60 target areas across
England from September 2007 to March 2011, and each project runs
for two years.' The workforce development - embracing 'Vocal Force'
- draws on principles developed through 'Vocal Union', part of the
Sage Gateshead's 'Access to Excellence Music Manifesto Pathfinder
Programme'. Vocal Force is working in collaboration with existing
schemes, projects, organisations and individuals across England as
part of Sing Up. The Institute of Education, University of London
agreed to undertake an external evaluation of a significant number
of workforce development participants that was complimentary to,
but separate from, the Sage Gateshead's own internal evaluation
processes.
Pianist Madeleine Forte's story is one of obstacles and successes,
of extraordinary talent, and of a long and fascinating life of
international study and performance. Born in Vichy-controlled
French Algeria during World War II, she began learning to play the
piano at an early age and was soon performing publicly. She made
her debut in Vichy at thirteen while studying with Alfred Cortot
and Wilhelm Kempff. As a young woman, she went to boarding school
in Algiers and Paris, continuing her musical studies. She married
young, and the marriage fell apart not long after the birth of her
first son, Yann. As she continued to travel, studying and
performing, she struggled to establish herself as a professional
artist. She studied with Rosina Lhevinne and Martin Canin in New
York, married again, and became a professor of music at Boise State
University. Her second marriage brought another son, Olen, and
lasted fourteen years. After her second divorce, she moved to
Connecticut, where she met Allen Forte, her third husband. They
collaborated on several artistic projects and performed all over
the world. This memoir tells the story of how a little girl with a
big talent overcame myriad challenges and found the courage to
achieve artistic success and personal happiness. Praise for
Madeleine Forte's Performances and Recordings "At a time when
national styles have all but dissolved into a generalized
international goulash, Forte's gorgeous tone and sensuous line
evoke classic French pianism ... her Maurice Ravel holds its own
against interpretations by many of her more celebrated peers, from
the chaste simplicity of the Sonatine to the virtuosic 'Gaspard de
la Nuit, ' in which no prisoners are taken and no notes are
dropped." "-The New Yorker" "Madeleine Forte is another master of
the French School ... She plays Debussy in a manner that would do
her old master Cortot proud, with a clear-eyed vigor, pearlescent
tone, and attention to detail that does not belie the emotional
content of the music but only makes it more coherent." "-Fanfare"

Hi and a very warm welcome to "ONE DIRECTION: DID YOU KNOW?." A
Killer Book Containing Gossip, Facts, Trivia, Images & Memory
Recall Quiz. (Unofficial & Unauthorized) This book is dedicated
to all those 1D fans out there who want to test or brush up on
their knowledge. I'm one of those people who loves to hear about
extraordinary facts or trivia about anything. They seem to be one
of the few things my memory can actually recall. I'm not sure if
it's to do with the shock or the "WoW" factor but for some reason
my brain seems to store at least some of it for a later date. This
edition includes a selection of those "WoW" facts combined with
some pretty awesome pictures, if I say so myself At the end there
is a short "True or False" quiz to check memory recall and to help
cement some of the information included in the book. Don't worry
though, it's a bit of fun but at the same time, it helps to check
your understanding. Please note that if you're an expert on this
subject then you may not find anything new here. If however you
enjoy hearing sensational and extraordinary trivia and you like
looking at some great pictures then I think you'll love it. Enjoy
the show....... Matt.
