Maylyn Murphy's Beginning Easy Singing Lessons Level 2 Grades 3-4 is the second in a fun and practical 3 book series. It is one of the few books intended to teach children the mechanics of music and singing. This series goes well beyond simply encouraging kids to parrot popular songs. In a simple building block type format it covers all the basics. Included are voice exercises, music theory, music notation, ear-training and sight singing. In the final chapters, this volume combines all of the lessons covered and applies them to popular children's songs. Ms. Esling has been teaching foreign languages in public and private schools as a German and French teacher. Ms. Esling's challenge was to get to the essence of the Detroit ghetto and its rappers, so that she could find the real character of Marshall Mathers III. That meant interviewing, sometimes arguing, perhaps disagreeing and spending countless hours with the people who Eminem grew up with and encountered on his way to the undisputed throne of rap. Isabelle Esling was born in Saint Avold, a little French town near the German border. She currently resides in London, England and can be reached for interviews at [email protected].

The National Singing Programme Sing Up was officially launched in November 2007 and a team from the Institute of Education, University of London were appointed early that academic term to undertake a research evaluation of key elements of the Programme. Across the first three years of the research-based Sing Up impact evaluation, data have been collected from 9,979 children, involving 11,388 individual singing assessments and the completion of 10,245 singing and self focused attitudinal questionnaires. Analyses of the data provide evidence that those children who have participated in the Sing Up programme are approximately two years in advance developmentally in their singing compared to their peers of the same age outside the programme. In addition, Sing Up experienced children have more positive attitudes to singing in school and appear to have a more positive self-image as a result of these experiences.
