The Polynesian triangle covers Easter Island, Hawaii, New Zealand
and the many isles in between. The legends of the region are based
on the creation of land, fish, sea, valleys and the volcanic
outcrops scattered across the long stretches of the Pacific. The
beautiful myths of the ancient Polynesians are brought together in
this new collection: from Hawaii the Rainbow Maiden of Manoa
undulates through the valleys and rainbow mists; the creator Maui
releases his fish hooks into the sea to raise the islands to the
surface; and tales of Pele the Fire Goddess, who hurls fountains of
molten rock into the air creating vast flows of lava. From the
Maori of New Zealand come the strange fruit of darkness, the tales
of Tiki and the Great Mother from whom the gods descend, then
humankind. And from Polynesia, more legends of Maui creating the
ancestors, and Hina the moon goddess. Such myth-making joy creates
a rare unity in diversity as the ancient Polynesians strove to
explain the beauty and darkness of their lush ocean worlds, now
offered in this new selection of myths and legends. FLAME TREE 451:
From myth to mystery, the supernatural to horror, fantasy and
science fiction, Flame Tree 451 offers a healthy diet of werewolves
and mechanical men, blood-lusty vampires, dastardly villains, mad
scientists, secret worlds, lost civilizations and escapist
fantasies. Discover a storehouse of tales gathered specifically for
the reader of the fantastic.
This is England -- but an England none have ever seen, and perhaps
none will ever see: for it is a country of the future, when the
blights of poverty and inequity have been corrected and cured, and
when the sky-blackening industries of the Modern Age have been
transformed . . .
Morris may have had his greatest influence on English and
American culture through his extraordinary designs for wallpaper,
furniture, and books. Yet his written works have retained a
persistent life as well, attracting readers generation after
generation, who find in his poems and novels the same sensibility,
the same intricate sense of design, and the same sense of form that
they find in his aesthetic creations on paper and in wood.
"He was in those days a genuine artist, a man of genius, and a
revolutionist . . ."
While those words from the utopian novel "News from Nowhere"
describe a fictional character, they apply as well to its Herculean
author, William Morris (1834-1896).
Eden Phillpotts's classical fantasy will whisk you away to a world
where shepherdesses are fair, gods wax philosophical, and where a
lesson is always learned in the nick of time. Tells the ancient
Greek tale of love, heartbreak and determination.
Young, headstrong Psyche has captured the eye of every suitor with her
beauty – but also, unfortunately, the jealous gaze of the goddess
Aphrodite. As punishment, Psyche is tied to a rock to be sacrificed to
a ‘monstrous husband’. And yet, no monster arrives: instead, she is
spirited away by Aphrodite’s daughter Eros.
Eros, goddess of desire, can change gender at will. And in her hidden
palace, she visits her bride under the cloak of darkness: Psyche is
forbidden to gaze upon the face of her lover. But as they explore each
other’s bodies and discover new pleasures, Psyche is tempted to break
her vow… even if it brings down the wrath of the gods.

The Hood is the second book in Lavie Tidhar's ambitious Anti-Matter
of Britain Quartet - a viscerally entertaining, ominously
subversive and poetically profane remixing of the myths and legends
that shaped our nation. God bless you, England, on this glorious
Year of Our Lord, 1145. Don't cross the Templars. Everybody knows
that. But Will Scarlet, back from the crusades, hopped up on khat
and cider, did. Stabbed thrice in the belly but somehow still
alive, he's heading home to Nottingham. And things are not right in
Nottingham. It's the wood, you see. Sherwood. Ice-age ancient,
impenetrable, hiding a dark and secret heart. As the ancient sages
say, If you go into the woods today, you may not come out tomorrow,
and the person who comes out may not be you... The Hood is Lavie
Tidhar's narcotic remix of an ancient English myth, a tale knotted
from legends lost to time, shredded and restitched for each passing
century. A tale for today. 'A wild, inventive tapestry of myth and
magic, with a wry sense of humor. Tidhar's writing is wonderfully
vibrant' Silvia Moreno-Garcia, bestselling author of Mexican Gothic

Nanny Reilly and her dog Henry Daly are tricked by a mean
leprechaun king into kidnapping his niece Princess Tara. Nanny's
kindness and innocence brings out the best in King Brian and they
are invited to the leprechaun dance on midsummer's eve. Nanny,
Henry Daly and their new friend Ned dress up in their Sunday best
and go to the dance. On their way to the dance, Princess Tara and
her father King Rory are caught by a mean man named Bull Cullen.
Bull is looking for the crock of gold and is ready to surrender
Princess Tara and King Rory to the Banshee, a mean old witch who
takes all her victims into her Banshee's Cradle in the heart of the
forest. Nanny, Ned and Henry Daly rescue them. For their bravery,
they are presented with a gold whistle each and two magic ponies.
The gold whistles give them the same magic powers as a leprechaun.
One day, while out beachcombing on their ponies, they come across
footprints in the sand. They follow the prints and find a
distraught fisherman named Fran O'Toole whose friend Mike Donovan
has been captured by the Banshee. These footprints are the
beginning of a magical adventure, which land them deep within the
Banshee's Cradle.
There's a war coming and it's not her war-or is it?
Thrust into the Realm of the Other, Leah finds herself in a
world shadowed by darkness.
The clans of the two-legged have forgotten who they are, while
the clans of the four-legged watch, unwilling to intercede in a
battle they do not consider theirs.
As the darkness rises, Leah discovers that the journey between
has changed her. No longer fearing what she cannot see, she
embraces the whole of it, her spirit-self rising, her vision
enabling her to communicate in the old way with the clans of the
earth above and beneath. Realizing that the Other wants what she
carries within her, she undertakes a perilous journey. Guided by
the Unseen, an ancient entity who has always been-protected by
Chera, a silver-eyed wolf and a handsome warrior known as The
Hunter, they are aided by the Mukwa: one of the old ones, from the
time of the dreaming.
As Leah journeys into the forbidden places she prepares for a
battle where light and dark meet and only one of them will walk
away.
His name, translated by the people was The Hunter. Born to the
clan of the two-legged, he ascended by the order of his birth to
become leader. The unexpected arrival of the woman had startled
him, but it was her courage that impressed him; that, and what he
saw layered beneath-his own memories stirring as he reached
out.
Blood memories. . .
