Set in 1930s Croatia, the opera follows the fortunes of 12-year-old Branko (Adrian Strooper) who, left alone after his mother dies, roams the streets of the coastal towns, violin in hand. After teaming up with flame-haired Zora (Olivia Vermeulen) and her orphan gang, Branko and his new found friends carve a swathe through the local streets, stealing food and staying one step ahead of the local police.
