Dermatological Diseases of the Nose and Ears - An Illustrated Guide (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed.... Dermatological Diseases of the Nose and Ears - An Illustrated Guide (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2010)
Can Baykal, K. Didem Yazganoglu
R3,062 Discovery Miles 30 620 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

"Dermatological Diseases of the Nose and Ears" gives comprehensive information about the lesions of these regions. It contains high quality original clinical pictures, which make the diagnosis easier in this important aspect of clinical dermatological practice. All diseases involving the nose and ears are discussed separately with a clinical differential diagnostic approach. As a result approximately 600 different diseases are addressed in the book. In clinical practice, physicians may observe lesions of the nose or ear only. After identifying the elementary lesion, the clinician can more easily uncover the diagnosis of a local or disseminated or systemic disease with the help of this book. Furthermore, this color illustrated book guides the reader to the diagnosis of the prevalent skin tumors frequently involving these localizations, addressing an important health care problem.

R4,032 Discovery Miles 40 320 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In preparing the material for this book, I took the advice of my students who generously shared their views and opinions with me. I was told that it would be preferable to have images of the various diseases with legends describing the disease. Students would be able to learn and retain the inf- mation more successfully if the material was accompanied by pictures and schematic drawings. Recent advances in technology have made it possible to photograph regions that are difcult to view with the naked eye, such as the ear, nose, throat, nasopharynx, and larynx - all the areas of otorhinolaryngology. Such an illustrated text in this feld is important and necessary for teaching purposes. In this book I tried to compile images of the basic conditions that are commonly seen in general practice and to give the reader a visual survey with a brief description of the condition. I added tables and schematic drawings in order to provide practical information. It is not the purpose of this book to be a comprehensive textbook, since many textbooks are already available with more detailed information of the conditions illustrated here. This book is primarily intended for medical students, family and general practitioners, and ENT trainees. It may also serve as basic reading material for those in allied specialties. I hope my colleagues fnd this book useful and it contributes toward their teaching purposes.

Operative Techniques in Laryngology (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2008): Clark A Rosen Operative Techniques in Laryngology (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2008)
Clark A Rosen; Foreword by Hans Leden, Robert H Ossoff; C. Blake Simpson
R5,095 Discovery Miles 50 950 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Filling a void that currently exists in otolaryngology textbooks, this is a comprehensive text on laryngeal surgery that can be used by physicians to prepare for surgical cases. It contains explicit step-by-step descriptions of surgical procedures so that the reader can "learn to operate". The surgical atlas is written by experts with step-by-step surgical maneuvers for various laryngeal procedures that encompass both microlaryngeal surgery and laryngeal framework surgery. Postoperative care and complications are also covered to round out the information. The atlas is richly illustrated to highlight the difficult three-dimensional anatomic concepts.

Invasive Fungal Rhinosinusitis (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2014): Gauri Mankekar Invasive Fungal Rhinosinusitis (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2014)
Gauri Mankekar
R1,727 Discovery Miles 17 270 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Incidence of invasive fungal sinusitis has been increasing over the years. The understanding of its pathophysiology has improved with newer serological tests and diagnostic methods helping in earlier diagnosis and reducing patient morbidity. It was believed earlier that invasive fungal sinusitis is seen only in immune compromised patients but clinical reports suggest otherwise. More anti-fungal drugs are being added to improve incidence of patient survival. This book aims to compile all practical information about invasive fungal sinusitis into a single volume. Therefore, busy clinicians would not have to perform exhaustive literature studies to diagnose invasive fungal sinusitis. The book aims to provide an overview of diseases which could be mistaken for invasive fungal sinusitis and discuss how the management is different. Book sections consist of clinical, microbiological, serological, pathological, radiological and pharmacological features of the disease and its management. Each section is important in today's context as it dynamically alters the management of the patient. Early clinical suspicion and rapid microbiological, pathological and radiological diagnosis with aggressive treatment with surgical debridement and medical therapy leads to favorable outcomes.

Clinical Diagnosis in Plastic Surgery (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2016): Ron Hazani, Mohamed Amir... Clinical Diagnosis in Plastic Surgery (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2016)
Ron Hazani, Mohamed Amir Mrad, David Tauber, Jason Ulm, Alan Yan, …
R2,025 Discovery Miles 20 250 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book systematically presents a collection of entities, syndromes, and diseases that are diagnosed and treated by plastic surgeons, hand surgeons, otolaryngologists, oral surgeons, and dermatologists. The goal is to document an extensive array of signs and visual clues that are critical to the diagnostic process, thereby enhancing the clinician's ability to identify relevant diagnostic features and make correct diagnoses. Skill in recognizing deformities and disease processes by observation is of vital importance in plastic surgery, which is very much a visual surgical specialty. In drawing together key diagnostic signs, this book will spare readers the onerous task of searching through endless resources, books, and websites. A helpful appendix details the various classification systems used in the book with the aid of appropriate diagrams. Clinical Diagnosis in Plastic Surgery is intended for students, residents, practicing physicians, and surgeons in all of the affiliated fields of plastic surgery.

Injection Laryngoplasty (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2015): Giuseppe Bergamini, Livio Presutti,... Injection Laryngoplasty (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2015)
Giuseppe Bergamini, Livio Presutti, Gabriele Molteni
R1,796 Discovery Miles 17 960 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This well-illustrated book provides step-by-step guidance on the various techniques - microlaryngoscopic, fiberoptic endoscopic and transcutaneous - that can be employed for the purpose of injection laryngoplasty, a surgical procedure in which a foreign material is injected into the vocal fold. The anatomy and function of the region are first explained, with identification of the causes and means of evaluation of glottic and neoglottic insufficiency. Advice is then provided on the choice of material for injection laryngoplasty, including absorbable and long-lasting options, on the basis of careful analysis that takes into account both the recent literature and the authors' own experiences. Detailed descriptions of the surgical indications and different procedures follow and for ease of reference, clear flow charts on diagnosis and indications are also included. The book concludes with chapters on the use of injection laryngoplasty specifically in the pediatric population and on postoperative care and speech therapy following the procedure. Injection Laryngoplasty will provide valuable assistance to all surgeons wishing to perform this kind of surgery.

Aesthetic Septorhinoplasty (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2016): Baris Cakir Aesthetic Septorhinoplasty (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2016)
Baris Cakir
R4,313 Discovery Miles 43 130 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This superbly illustrated book describes how techniques previously developed by Dr. Rollin Daniel for use in open rhinoplasty can be adapted for use in the closed approach. It is the author's opinion that this combination offers greater feedback during surgery, a shorter recovery period and absence of scar. Full explanation is provided of preoperative preparation, including evaluation of the nasal surface aesthetics using the concept of geometric polygons as aesthetic subunits to define both the existing deformity and the aesthetic goals. The surgical techniques developed and modified to achieve the desired surface appearance are then described step by step with the aid of a wealth of color photos. It is illustrated how the novel dissection and redrape control methods reduce the healing time and enhance outcome and an extensive series of case analyses is presented to document the benefits of the approach. The book is written in a "cookbook format" that will enable plastic surgeons quickly to learn how to utilize the closed approach to rhinoplasty to optimal aesthetic benefit.

John B. Hanks, William B Inabnet III
R2,310 Discovery Miles 23 100 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book encompasses many different diagnoses as well as several specialties of practicing surgeons in the United States. Over the last ten years many advances have been made in preoperative assessment including imaging and diagnostic techniques, operative approaches including "minimally invasive" and robotic surgery, and post operative care. Controversies in Thyroid Surgery explores some of the controversies that arise as the result of these new findings and applications. The book is divided into the two categories of benign diagnosis and cancer topics. Both of these areas lend themselves to separate analysis of specific problems in the areas mentioned above. The text reviews recent data about advances in diagnostic techniques as well as outcomes with specific regards to the newer operative techniques. The textbook will serve as a resource for medical and surgical colleagues involved in the treatment of a wide variety of thyroid diseases. Authors that are experts in their field and have published extensively provide balanced and non-biased views of topics that are admittedly controversial. Controversies in Thyroid Surgery will be of great value and utility to practicing endocrinologists, general surgeons and otolaryngologists.

are g rowing among core specialists in the aesthetic field, aesthetic medicine is advancing exponentially. The two authors of this text have worked together to provide a knowled- able and practical approach to the male patient in aesthetic medicine. April 2009 Timothy Corcoran Flynn, M.D. Clinical Professor, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Medical Director, Cary Skin Center, Cary, NC 27608, USA Preface Men are different from women in many ways. Male aesthetics are different from female aesthetics. Most readers would agree with this statement. However, as the majority of our patients are still female, even cosmetic physicians may tend to treat their male patients like female patients. This can lead to dissatisfaction of the patient and consequently of the cosmetic physician. As the demand for aesthetic procedures in male patients is rising, there is a need for good textbooks on this subject. The aim of this book is to explain the specifities of the ageing process and facial aesthetics in men and to present the treatments available. In addition, common skin conditions and diseases that also influence the male aesthetic appearance will be discussed. The book written from the perspectives of a plastic surgeon and a dermatologist should enable us to treat our male patients better, and by that increase the satisfaction of our patients and, last not least, our satisfaction as the treating physicians.

Roger Jankowski
R3,643 Discovery Miles 36 430 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The phylontogenic theory proposes an original understanding of nose, sinus and midface formation and development by looking back in evolution for the first traces of the olfactory organ and then tracing its successive phyletic transformations to become part of the respiratory apparatus and finally the central point of human facial anatomy. Von Baer's, Darwin's, Haeckel's, Garstang's, Gould's and Buss' explorations of parallels between phylogeny and ontogeny help to trace the nose and midface story. The paradigm of existing parallels between ontogeny and phylogeny proves useful both in seeking to understand the holoprosencephalic spectrum of facial malformations (which represent radically different pathways of facial development after the life's tape has been started to run again) and in formulating hypotheses on chordate to vertebrate evolution. The phylontogenic theory leads to new medical hypotheses on nose and sinus diseases and opens the field of evolution and development-based medicine.
