The Meerkat series of class readers takes a phonetic approach step by step introducing the prescribed phonics, and later spelling conventions. The progression of phonetic skills will be clearly seen. Reading assignments encouraging reading comprehension accompany each reading lesson.
The progression of phonetic skills will be clearly seen. Reading assignments encouraging reading comprehension accompany each reading lesson. The exciting and contemporary reading lessons include stories, fables, jokes, factual text, advertisements and examples of digital communication and much more.
Each book contains 32 weeks of work, arranged into four units. Seven weeks of each unit begin with a new ‘Skill Focus’, addressing a key language concept. Each day, the first two questions will reinforce and consolidate this language concept. The rest of the daily questions will cover common skills of English. Energise your English programme through comprehensive and structured daily English practice to consolidate learners' ability to read and write. Build learners’ confidence through improved mastery of spelling, punctuation, phonics, word knowledge and grammar. Target confusing words and common errors in writing and help your learners to achieve better results.

This maths scheme is written specifically for Scotland to help implement the recommendations from "Improving Mathematics Education 5-14". It provides an increasing pace of progression; end of level assessment; oral and mental calculation; integral homework; and support for planning. For staff planning maths lessons there are "Organising and Planning Guides, which provide matching charts to "Mathematics Education 5-14" block planners. In the medium and short term the "Teaching File" provides a schematic showing the structure and sequence of teaching, with pages and components needed, and a summary for each mathematical topic. Level A and Level B planning guides show a detailed match between 5-14 attainment targets and the Units in SHM 1, 2 and 3. On introducing maths lessons, "Tune-in" introduces a new section of work, reinforces previous learning, and can be used as pre-teaching assessment "Starters" and other mental activities offer specific activities linked to particular sections of maths, and generic activities for use with a range of different operations. Within the "Teaching File" a broad range of interactive teaching activities give structured progression through each topic. The pupil activities follow the teaching and provide consolidation, practice and extension work. The "Teaching File" also offers suggestions for a clear follow-up to the main points covered in each lesson: games and activities following on from the pupil materials; extension material; int roduction to a Home Activity; and discussion points. "Scottish Heinemann Maths" provides assessment opportunities linked to the 5 to 14 Guidelines through a range of components: "Tune-ins", "Check-ups", "Round-ups" and "Activity books". The pupil resources comprise activity books, text books and extension books. The activity books reinforce fluency of number facts and mental calculation strategies, using appropriate language to support children's learning. The textbooks offer a structured development of each topic, pr ovide problem solving activities and encourage independent recording. Extension textbooks challenge the more able children.
Abacus is a popular Maths scheme used by thousands of schools all over the world. It fully aligns to the UK National Curriculum. Written by a team of experts, led by Series Editor, Professor Ruth Merttens. For children who are following a UK National Curriculum-based maths scheme, the pupil book provides guidance for each strand the national curriculum. Each Pupil Book includes: the right balance of practice and problem-solving for each area of maths pictorial representations to support children's conceptual understanding clearly laid out questions with instructions that are easy to follow a self-assessment opportunity on every page
Students learning math are expected to do more than just solve problems; they must also be able to demonstrate their thinking and share their ideas, both orally and in writing. As many classroom teachers have discovered, these can be challenging tasks for students. The good news is, mathematical communication can be taught and mastered. In Teaching Students to Communicate Mathematically, Laney Sammons provides practical assistance for K-8 classroom teachers. Drawing on her vast knowledge and experience as a classroom teacher, she covers the basics of effective mathematical communication and offers specific strategies for teaching students how to speak and write about math. Sammons also presents useful suggestions for helping students incorporate correct vocabulary and appropriate representations when presenting their mathematical ideas. This must-have resource will help you help your students improve their understanding of and their skill and confidence in mathematical communication.

For years, the teaching and learning of fractions has been associated with rote memorization. But this mechanical approach to instruction-which strips students of an ability to reason or make sense of math-has resulted in a failure of understanding. Author Monica Neagoy, drawing on decades of research studies, evidence from teacher practice, and 25 years of experience working around the world with teachers, students, and parents, addresses seven big ideas in the teaching and learning of fractions in grades 2-6. Each idea is supported by a vignette from a real classroom, common misconceptions, a thorough unpacking of productive mathematical thinking, and several multistep and thought-provoking problems for teachers to explore. She offers three fundamental reasons why it's imperative for us to take a closer look at how we teach fractions: Fractions play a key role in students' feelings about mathematics. Fractions are fundamental to school math and daily life. Fractions are foundational to success in algebra. While a solid grounding in algebra is necessary for a STEM career, the worthy goal of "algebra for all" will not be possible until "fractions for all" is a reality. Unpacking Fractions provides teachers with concrete strategies for achieving that reality-in short, helping all students gain the knowledge they need to feel at ease with fractions.
This series aims to encourage a positive attitude towards maths and numbers through a play-based learning approach. For each theme there is both an activity book and a game box, which can be purchased and used independently. The activity book is intended for use by children on their own, while the game box will enable them to challenge one or more of their friends. Each of the activity books tell a story, intended to stimulate the child's curiosity and motivation. The mathematical topics are introduced gradually and intuitively. The game box has the same style and contents as the corresponding activity book, but can be used completely independently of the book. The box also includes an instruction booklet and notes for parents and teachers. AGES: 8 + AUTHOR: Linda Bertola is a linguistic and learning facilitator, specialising in special needs education. Corrective Mathematics' consistent and carefully sequenced lessons quickly bring students up to date on core skills, and each skill is taught so students fully understand it and practice it until it is mastered.
Replaces 9781908684462. Fundamental mathematical skills are at the heart of 11 plus and common entrance exams. Mathematical questions at 11 plus are typically a combination of worded problems, requiring comprehension and mathematical manipulation of data, and quick-fire numerical questions, testing a child s raw mathematical ability. This collection of tests is designed to expose a child to both types of question. The questions provided within this book are intended to develop the fundamental building blocks of mathematics to equip a child with the skills required to sit the numerical reasoning sections of the 11 plus and common entrance exams. The suggested time for each paper is based on data obtained from conventional classroom testing sessions. Students requiring publications that address the numerical reasoning sections of 11 plus will also benefit from the 11+ Essentials Numerical Reasoning Multi-part Book 1 and Book 2, and Numerical Reasoning Quick-fire Book 1 and 2. These books contain practice papers that are representative of the exams set by both independent and public schools and are best used as real exam practice. Extensively road-tested by Eleven Plus Exams, all 11+ Essentials tests are best used to benchmark a child's performance. The online service helps to identify areas for improvement and, crucially, to gauge relative progress. They are perfect for use both in the classroom and at home.
