Integer Optimization and its Computation in Emergency Management (Paperback): Zhengtian Wu Integer Optimization and its Computation in Emergency Management (Paperback)
Zhengtian Wu
R3,139 Discovery Miles 31 390 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Studies on integer optimization in emergency management have attracted engineers and scientists from various disciplines such as management, mathematics, computer science, and other fields. Although there are a large number of literature reports on integer planning and emergency events, few books systematically explain the combination of the two. Researchers need a clear and thorough presentation of the theory and application of integer programming methods for emergency management. Integer Optimization and its Computation in Emergency Management investigates the computation theory of integer optimization, developing integer programming methods for emergency management and explores related practical applications. Pursuing a holistic approach, this book establishes a fundamental framework for this topic, intended for graduate students who are interested in operations research and optimization, researchers investigating emergency management, and algorithm design engineers working on integer programming or other optimization applications.

On the Production Methods of Pot Still Whisky - Campbeltown, Scotland, May 1920 (Hardcover): Masataka Taketsuru On the Production Methods of Pot Still Whisky - Campbeltown, Scotland, May 1920 (Hardcover)
Masataka Taketsuru; Translated by Ruth Ann Herd; Technical editing by Alan G. Wolstenholme
R728 Discovery Miles 7 280 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In the winter of 1920, the 25 year-old Masataka Taketsuru, with his new wife Rita in tow, arrived in Campbeltown, a small town on the west coast of Scotland. With the help of Professor Wilson of the Royal Technical College in Glasgow, the young Japanese had been fortunate enough to secure an invitation to undergo practical training in pot still whisky manufacture at the Hazelburn Distillery, then the largest of the Campbeltown distilleries. Under the guidance of chief technician Peter Margach Innes, Taketsuru was able to delve into all aspects of whisky manufacture. Four months later, he had completed this report. Taketsuru would go on to establish his own company - Nikka Whisky. Today Nikka's whiskies are known the world over, and frequently win awards.

Kinga Pielichowska, Krzysztof Pielichowski
R4,922 Discovery Miles 49 220 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Multifunctional Phase Change Materials: Fundamentals, Properties and Applications updates on phase change materials (PCMs) used for the storage of thermal energy as sensible and latent heat. This class of materials is the subject of intensive research, both fundamental and applied, as they substantially contribute to the efficient use and conservation of waste heat and solar energy. Different groups of materials have been investigated as PCMs, including inorganic systems (salt and salt hydrates), organic, e.g., paraffins or fatty acids, polymers, and finally, hybrid materials. Recent developments are focused on multifunctional PCMs that provide functional features apart from energy storage, such as desired optical or antibacterial properties. This book presents various synthesis approaches for functionalized materials, as well as specific interactions and self-organization effects in polymer/functionalized (nano)particle systems. It reviews the current state-of-the-art in multifunctional phase change materials for thermal energy storage applications by describing the fundamentals of energy storage, the main classes of PCMs, functionalization protocols, encapsulation methods and shape stabilization procedures.

Wild Track - Sound, Text and the Idea of Birdsong (Hardcover): Seán Street Wild Track - Sound, Text and the Idea of Birdsong (Hardcover)
Seán Street
R3,172 Discovery Miles 31 720 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Wild Track is an exploration of birdsong and the ways in which that sound was conveyed, described and responded to through text, prior to the advent of recording and broadcast technologies in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Street links sound aesthetics, radio, natural history, and literature to explore how the brain and imagination translate sonic codes as well as the nature of the silent sound we "hear" when we read a text. This creates an awareness of sound through the tuned attention of the senses, learning from sound texts of the natural world that sought – and seek – to convey the intensity of the sonic moment and fleeting experience. To absorb these lessons is to enable a more highly interactive relationship with sound and listening, and to interpret the subtleties of audio as a means of expression and translation of the living world.
