A large portion of the book is taken up with descriptions of the producing fields and discussions of the conditions in these fields. The geology of the State is considered with reference to the occurrence of oil and gas in the developed areas and with reference to the probable or possible occur rence of these substances in other portions of the State. The methods of prospecting for oil and gas and the use of geology as a guide for prospecting are considered rather fully. Some items of general interest, such as brief notes on transportation and refining, are included. In the con sideration of the oil and gas of the different fields it is necessary to refer constantly to the geologic conditions which exist in the area. For the benefit of those who have had no training in geology brief discussions of the nature and mode of origin of rocks, and of the structure or posi tion in which the rocks are found are given.
