Religious Education as a Dialogue with Difference addresses current
issues over the study of religion in publicly maintained schools.
Are liberal, inclusive approaches to the study of religion suited
to the aims of education in a democracy? Do liberal democratic aims
offer the right framework for the study of religion? By presenting
research on English secondary school pupils' motivation in
religious education, this volume argues that religious education is
best understood as a democratic dialogue with difference. The book
offers empirical evidence for this claim, and it demonstrates how
learners gain in religious literacy, both through the exercise of
democratic citizenship in the classroom and towards the goal of
life-long democratic citizenship.

You are not the centre of the universe. When we're so focused on
our own lives and concerns, it's easy to forget that the world
doesn't revolve around us. This book unpacks seven core values of
the Christian life - with God at the centre - exploring whether
this in fact is a much more fulfilling way to live. Offering a new
vision of the Christian faith for today's generation, this lively,
engaging look at discipleship is full of warmth and practical
advice, making it the perfect introduction for young people looking
to follow Jesus.
Sometimes life gives you way more questions than answers. And yet
it seems like everyone expects you to just figure it all out!
Whether you're looking toward your future or wrestling to get
through today, it doesn't have to be so stressful. Just three big
questions will help you find clarity about all the rest: * Who am
I? * Where do I fit? * What difference can I make? This 60-day
exploration breaks down those big questions into manageable pieces
and helps you embrace God's best answers for you. Backed by
Scripture and informed by years of research with teens just like
you, this book does more than help you figure out what to do with
your life; it will help you understand what your life means to the
world--no matter who your friends are, what career you end up with,
what kind of family you come from or will have in the future, what
obstacles you may face, or what doubts trouble you along the way.
YOU are one-of-a-kind, and you can find faithful answers to life's
biggest questions.

The Education Reform Act of 1988 has caused a revolution in the
educational system of England and Wales. The educational tradition
and practice of more than 100 years was swept away and schools
found that the system of which they were part and which had been
one of the most decentralized in Europe was now one of the most
centralized. A National Curriculum emerged with profile components,
attainment targets, programmes of study and statements of
attainment along with a requirement for formal assessment at the
end of four key stages in a pupil's educational career. Within
these new requirements were embedded a number of concerns for
clearly identified skills, knowledge and understanding, for
development and progression.

This is a prayer book for teenagers, containing prayers in a range
of styles, arranged thematically. Here are prayers about exams,
bullying, relationships, the environment, sex, bereavement, and
much, much more.
The prayers themselves are numbered for ease of reference and
feature a mix of ancient and modern styles, encouraging young
people of many different temperaments to develop their own prayer
life, as the prayers of others open spiritual doors for them.
"When sudden, unexpected circumstances hit," explains Martin
Saunders, "even the most hardened atheist can be known to turn to
prayer. The desire and need to pray is created inside each one of
us at the same time we get spleens, eyeballs and collarbones. Like
a computer program which is created to contact its manufacturers
regularly and 'request latest updates, ' so we are born with an
innate desire to talk to our maker.
"That's why, in those desperate moments when we do turn to
prayer, we instantly feel some level of comfort. That's why, to
stretch the software analogy a little further, we often walk away
from prayer feeling refreshed, updated and upgraded."
