An instant New York Times bestseller! The first definitive
biography of guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughan, with an epilogue by
Jimmie Vaughan, and foreword and afterword by Double Trouble's
Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon. Just a few years after he almost
died from a severe addiction to cocaine and alcohol, a clean and
sober Stevie Ray Vaughan was riding high. His last album was his
most critically lauded and commercially successful. He had
fulfilled a lifelong dream by collaborating with his first and
greatest musical hero, his brother Jimmie. His tumultuous marriage
was over and he was in a new and healthy romantic relationship.
Vaughan seemed poised for a new, limitless chapter of his life and
career. Instead, it all came to a shocking and sudden end on August
27, 1990, when he was killed in a helicopter crash following a
dynamic performance with Eric Clapton. Just 35 years old, he left
behind a powerful musical legacy and an endless stream of What Ifs.
In the ensuing 29 years, Vaughan's legend and acclaim have only
grown and he is now an undisputed international musical icon.
Despite the cinematic scope of Vaughan's life and death, there has
never been a truly proper accounting of his story. Until now. Texas
Flood provides the unadulterated truth about Stevie Ray Vaughan
from those who knew him best: his brother Jimmie, his Double
Trouble bandmates Tommy Shannon, Chris Layton and Reese Wynans, and
many other close friends, family members, girlfriends, fellow
musicians, managers and crew members.
Brian May and his father Harold started to hand-build an electric
guitar in 1963. Brian dreamed of a guitar that would outperform any
of the existing commercially-made electric guitars; his father had
the technical knowledge and skills to help make the dream come
true. Brian has played his guitar on every Queen album and in
Queen's live shows around the world, from the roof of Buckingham
Palace to the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. "My dad
and I decided to make an electric guitar. I designed an instrument
from scratch, with the intention that it would have a capability
beyond anything that was out there, more tunable, with a greater
range of pitches and sounds, with a better tremolo, and with a
capability of feeding back through the air in a 'good' way'. Brian

This book explains and shows in detail the various techniques used
by fiddle players in creating a traditional style of playing. All
the information is presented in the context of the music itself,
with numerous transcribed and recorded examples. It is aimed not
only at the beginner, but also the fiddle-player (and indeed
violinist) with some knowledge and experience who wishes to learn
more. For those unable to read music, a chapter on notation is
included. Particular emphasis is given to bowing and ornamentation,
with individual chapters devoted to jigs, slides, polkas,
hornpipes, airs and reels. The book also attempts to convey
something of the excitement felt in playing music which has a large
degree of improvisation, albeit within certain bounds. The
demonstration CD, which features a large selection of the
transcribed tunes and ornaments performed by Cranitch, is an
invaluable aid to learning as it allows the listener to hear how
the music and ornamentation should sound.
In the early seventeenth century, enthusiasm for the violin swept
across Europe-this was an instrument capable of bewitching
virtuosity, with the power to express emotions in a way only before
achieved with the human voice. With this new guide to the Baroque
violin, and its close cousin, the Baroque viola, distinguished
performer and pedagogue Walter Reiter puts this power into the
hands of today's players. Through fifty lessons based on the
Reiter's own highly-renowned course at The Royal Conservatory of
the Hague, The Baroque Violin & Viola, Volume II provides a
comprehensive exploration of the period's rich and varied
repertoire. The lessons in Volume II cover the early
seventeenth-century Italian sonata, music of the French Baroque,
the Galant style, and the sonatas of composers like Schmelzer,
Biber, and Bach. Practical exercises are integrated into each
lesson, and accompanied by rich video demonstrations on the book's
companion website. Brought to life by Reiter's deep insight into
key repertoire based on a lifetime of playing and teaching, The
Baroque Violin & Viola, Volume II: A Fifty-Lesson Course will
enhance performances of professional and amateur musicians alike.

Unassuming late guitarist Paul Yandell described his career not as
one of celebrity but as sideman, the musician that audiences hear
while they're focused on the star. From his humble beginnings as a

Grand Ole Opry, he ultimately gained the trust and confidence of
two of America's finest musicians, Jerry Reed and the incomparable

Paul's online posts, and family members, a lifetime in the music
business is recounted, from breaking in with the Louvin Brothers in
the 1950s to his 25-year association with "Mr. Guitar" Chet Atkins,
to his last recording in 2006. Along the way, Paul provides a

and gadgets, and the people and personalities of country music's
golden era in the second half of the 20th century.
