In Quantitative Ammunition Selection, Charles Schwartz presents an accessible mathematical model that allows armed professionals and lawfully-armed citizens to evaluate the terminal ballistic preformance of self-defense ammunition using water as a valid ballistic test medium. Based upon a modified fluid dynamics equation that correlates highly (r=+0.94) to more than 700 points of manufacturer-and laboratory-test data, the quantitative model allows the armed professional to generate ballistic test results equivalent to those obtaines in calibrated 10 percent ordnance gelatin. Using data generated from water test, the quantitative model accurately predicts the permanent wound cavity volume and mass, terminal penetration depth, and exit velocity of handgun projectiles as these phenomena would occur in calibrated 10 percent ordnance gelatin and soft tissue. A retired law enforcement professional, Schwartz provides a concise explanation of the relevant principles of mechanics, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics pertaining to the model and its derivation. The quantitative model is clearly presented with illustrated computational examples that provide guidance to the armed professional in every aspect of the model's application.

Defensive Handgun was written to help law abiding citizens enhance their knowledge on safe firearm handling and provide them with a platform to build solid defensive handgun skills. Many people buy handguns due to safety concerns for themselves or their loved ones. Without fundamental training in safe handling, gun owners risk creating dangerous situations instead of providing protective conditions.
2012 Reprint of 1955 Edition. Profusely illustrated. Exact facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Keith was born in Missouri in 1899. His family moved to Montana six years later, where he grew up around former outlaws, lawmen, buffalo hunters, and Indian fighters as his life spanned the time from the Civil War veterans and gunfighters of the Frontier to the more modern age of hand guns. His teachers had survived the bloodiest war in our nation's history and had seen the great herds of buffaloes and the cow towns that helped build the West. Keith's writings had great influence on firearms in general and especially on single action six guns. Keith's knowledge of every facet of handguns in general and six shooters in particular is truly remarkable. He covers it all, from history to game shooting to gun fighting and much more. Although this book was written before the advent of the .44 Magnum, Mr. Keith's knowledge and experience are invaluable, with his game shooting and long range abilities most impressive of all. Keith also covers slip shooting with the Colt SAA, a fascinating and surprisingly effective technique generally ignored by modern writers. But most importantly, Elmer's honesty and integrity are his greatest attributes to those who knew him. If you love good old six shooters, you must have this book. This title remains an important and classic work on the subject. Table of contents: Dedication Preface Introduction Chapter I History of the Sixgun Chapter II Selecting the Handgun Chapter III Learning to Shoot Chapter IV Sixgun Sights Chapter V Long Range Shooting Chapter VI Game Shooting Chapter VII Double Action Shooting Chapter VIII Gun Rigs and Holsters Chapter IX Quick Draw and Hip Shooting Chapter X Gun Fighting Chapter XI Revolvers Versus Auto Pistols Chapter XII Aerial and Trick Shooting Chapter XIII Slip Shooting, Fanning, Calvalry Guns Chapter XIV Loading and Management of Cap and Ball Sixguns Chapter XV Repairs, Remodeling, Resighting Chapter XVI A Bullet Chapter Chapter XVII Cartridge Reloading Chapter XVIII Selection of Gun Cartridges Chapter XIX Ornamentation Chapter XX Care and Cleaning
This book is written for anyone who understands that the lives of people we love can be irretrievably broken by a home invasion or other deadly force encounter. While many law abiding citizens insure their property, the protection of life against deadly force encounters is often ignored. The probability of becoming the victim of a home invasion or personal assault far outweighs the chances of becoming the victim of a fire. Yet, many people understand their options for protecting against fire better than they comprehend their alternatives for protecting life. As a professional who spends nearly every waking hour focused on protecting life or training others to protect life, I have written this book to present the modern shotgun as a viable defense option for personal safety. This book helps crack the code around the mystery, mystique and often miscommunication about the modern shotgun. It presents tactical applications written so the average citizen or trained operator can understand how to maximize the effectiveness of this incredible tool. The protection of one's life or the life of a loved one is a mindset. The mindset begins with awareness of how quickly one can become a victim of a deadly encounter, and how readily you can prepare to guard against the most dire outcome once awareness becomes part of your daily reality. The modern shotgun is a tool to help you accomplish your personal, team or agency's safety mission. After reading this book and practicing the recommended tactics, you will improve your situational awareness and, with training, you will significantly enhance your ability to protect life in the event of a deadly encounter. Please enjoy the reading and make time to master the techniques at the range. Stay aware, stay focused and stay safe; and may God continue to bless and watch over you and your families.
2012 Reprint of 1950 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Illustrated with over 100 photos and drawings. Roy F. Dunlap's book is self-described as "a manual of firearms design, construction, alteration and remodeling for amateur and professional gunsmiths and users of modern firearms." What makes Dunlap's book important is its specificity. For example, instead of merely bringing up the need for a bench grinder, he cites why a 1/4- o r 1/3-horsepower, double-shaft model, turning at 1,750 rpm with a wire-brush wheel on one side and a medium-coarse wheel on the other is the best choice. He supports his recommendation by explaining why you'll find wider use for a medium coarse than a finer stone. His chapter entitled "Helpful Gunsmith Knowledge," is absolutely crammed with bits of information, and includes tips that he evidently could find no other place for in his book. In the midst of a general discussion on disassembly, for instance, Dunlap digresses to describe in detail a L-shaped tool he made to simplify reassembly of an L.C. Smith double and how to use it. All in all, Dunlap covers soldering and brazing; welding; heat treatment of metals; making and fitting sights and accessories; making, fitting and heat treatment of parts; cartridge information useful to gunsmiths; rifle barrels; chamber and barrel work; rifle-action work; pistol and revolver work; shotgun work; twenty two rim fire arms; browning, blueing and blacking of metal; fitting commercial metallic sights; mounting telescopic sights; wood for gun stocks; design of gun stocks; stock making; checkering; stock repair and alteration; stock finishing; styling the custom rifle; custom metal work; ornamentation of wood and metal; target rifles; the Garand rifle; testing facilities and apparatus; synthetic bedding; cartridge and chamber drawings; and data sheets. A classic work, profusely illustrated.

Another excellent performance training product from www.shooting-performance.com, Competition Handgun Training Drills contains the drills (and only the drills) found in the program in my book "Your Competition Handgun Training Program." These drills are designed to teach the shooter the critical skills necessary to excell in practical shooting. It is meant to be used as a range guide for those that do not want to print the drills, or by shooters that want to use the drills to design their own program. The full training program is recommended for those wishing to really excel. If you have this book, and are interested in the full program, please visit www.shooting-performance.com to purchase it or other books and DVD's. Thanks for your interest in Shooting-Performance
If big-game hunters are to be consistently successful, they must be able to accurately place their bullets when a shot opportunity presents itself. "Great Shot " is a comprehensive examination of the knowledge needed and skills required to make such shots wherever and however they may be encountered, and it provides practical advice on how to acquire and hone these skills. Among the topics covered are: relevant ballistic information, the implications of shooting along inclines, fundamentals of good shooting form, how to develop steady field-shooting positions, mental preparation, how to practice effectively and how to deal with wind. More specialized subjects, such as range determination, long-range shooting and shooting with iron sights, are addressed in detail.

Most U.S. presidents engaged in some sort of outdoor sport, prior to, during, and after their term of office. Without question, George Washington's main outdoor sporting interest was to be astride his favorite mount riding to the hounds in pursuit of Reynard the Fox. This sort of riding came easily to him after spending countless days on horseback surveying, participating in the French and Indian War in western Pennsylvania, the Revolutionary War, and at Mt. Vernon overseeing his plantation, visiting neighbors, and traveling. By all accounts he was a superb horseman. However relatively few sportsman-historians today appear to know that George Washington also hunted and fished below Mt. Vernon on the Potomac River and its tributaries. A fascinating account of George Washington's sporting life from his own journals! --Henry M. Reeves.

"Smallbore Rifle Shooting" is essential reading for those who are considering taking up the sport, and for those who already have some experience but wish to improve their skills and participate in competitions. It takes the reader forward from the point at which the very first shot is fired, introduces new levels of understanding and competence, provides useful advice, and answers many of the questions frequently asked by beginners. The key topics, which are examined in detail, include breathing, aiming, trigger control, and "follow through." Step-by-step guidance is presented on how to build a comfortable and stable prone position while wearing a jacket and sling, and the numerous photos are include pictures taken through the sights. The author presents practice exercises that help demonstrate the different techniques. For people looking to progress beyond indoor practice shooting, there is an explanation of types of competition, how to enter events, and how to anticipate the effect of wind on a shot.
