Paul Foster Case was an American occultist of the early 20th
century and author of numerous books on occult tarot and Qabalah.
Perhaps his greatest contributions to the field of occultism were
the lessons he wrote for associate members of Builders of the
Adytum. The Knowledge Lectures given to initiated members of the
Chapters of the B.O.T.A. were equally profound, although the
limited distribution has made them less well known. Case was early
on attracted to the occult. While still a child he reported
experiences that today are called lucid dreaming. He corresponded
about these experiences with Rudyard Kipling who encouraged him as
to the validity of his paranormal pursuits. In the year 1900, Case
met the occultist Claude Bragdon while both were performing at a
charity performance. Bragdon asked Case what he thought the origin
of playing cards was. After pursuing the question in his father's
library, Case discovered a link to tarot, called 'The Game of Man,
' thus began what would become Case's lifelong study of the tarot,
and leading to the creation of the B.O.T.A. tarot deck, a
"corrected" version of the Rider-Waite cards. Between 1905 and 1908
(aged 20-24), Case began practicing yoga, and in particular
pranayama, from what published sources were available. His early
experiences appear to have caused him some mental and emotional
difficulties and left him with a lifelong concern that so called
"occult" practice be done with proper guidance and training.

In the chaos of daily life, many Christians long for the time and
mental clarity to reflect on scripture, to worship, and to pray. The
Tarot can become an unexpected tool in this journey, inviting us to
pause, contemplate, and find insight and wisdom in our walk. In The
Contemplative Tarot, author Brittany Muller draws deeply on Christian
tradition and theology to create a tarot practice built on spiritual
reflection, prayer, and worship.
The Tarot has held countless meanings to countless listeners over the
course of its existence, but The Contemplative Tarot offers a uniquely
Christian interpretation of the cards, including Bible verses and
meditations on each of their spiritual meanings. Brittany provides
practical guidance on how to use the cards in a Christian context,
whether as prompts for personal prayer, daily reminders of spiritual
truths, or as part of a more structured practice such as the Ignatian
examen.
The Contemplative Tarot offers a thoughtful, introspective new
interpretation of the Tarot and an invitation to create powerful
moments of reflection and worship in your daily life.

One of the most fascinating areas of the occult - and one of the
least understood is the subject of the Tarot, those mystical cards
hundreds - perhaps thousands - of years old, which come down to us
from an origin shrouded in mystery. Many things are claimed for the
Tarot pack: it is reputed to have been the ancestor of our modern
playing cards; it is supposed to contain all the Wisdom of the
Ages, symbolically expressed; it is said to have the power to
foretell the future. Whatever their powers, the Tarot cards never
fail to fascinate the casual experimenter and to richly repay the
serious student of their mysteries. Dr. Thierens offers a clear,
concise explanation of the Tarot, both the Lesser and the Greater
Arcana, and sets forth for the first time a carefully-worked-out
system of correspondance between the Tarot and Astrology. He offers
a key to divination with the cards that will be of great relevance
as to those interested in both the Tarot and astrological studies.
This remarkable tarot emerges directly from the mystical realms of
dream and vision, manifesting completely fresh imagery. Pregnant
with possibilities that shine light upon the hidden and reveal new
pathways of understanding, each image - direct from the author's
own dream experiences - is an original offering rich with powerful
insights designed to awaken that which is essential for moving
forward on our journey of self-discovery. The stunning deck and
accompanying guidebook invite you to discover the wisdom and truth
that lie beyond the limited view of waking reality, and to draw
upon the power of your unconscious - the insight of your psyche -
to meet life's challenges and achieve your goals.

Rider-Waite Tarot has set the standard for hundreds of other tarot decks, which follow the archetypal images created by Pamela Colman Smith in 1909 under the direction of Arthur Edward Waite. This edition includes Smith's original hand-drawn titles.
"A unique feature of the Rider-Waite deck, and one of the principal reasons for its enduring popularity, is that all of the cards, including the Minor Arcana, depict full scenes with figures and symbols. Prior to the Rider-Waite Tarot, the pip cards of almost all tarot decks were marked only with the arrangement of the suit signs -- swords, wands, cups, and coins, or pentacles. The pictorial images on all the cards allow interpretations without the need to repeatedly consult explanatory text. The innovative Minor Arcana, and Pamela Colman Smith's ability to capture the subtleties of emotion and experience have made the Rider-Waite Tarot a model for the designs of many tarot packs." -- (from The Encyclopedia of Tarot, Volume III).
Rider-Waite Tarot was named one of the Top Ten Tarot Decks of All Time by Aeclectic Tarot.
