Books > Children's & Educational > Young children's, early learning & special book types > Early learning / early learning concepts > Time & seasons > Telling the time
Telling the time is a complex skill that many children struggle to grasp. Schofield & Sims Telling the Time breaks this difficult topic down into a sequence of manageable ideas that young learners can approach at their own pace. Beginning with child-friendly explanations of times of day and units of time, it moves on to introduce telling the time on an analogue clock, before progressing to cover a wide range of related concepts, including different ways of measuring and representing time, time expressions and everyday time problems. Each activity book provides large, clear clock faces for easy counting and colour-coded hands to aid recognition of hours and minutes. 'Learn' panels help to explain time-telling in simple steps, while regular 'Did you know?' boxes provide fun general-knowledge facts to enrich learning. Answers to all the practice questions are included at the back of the book for easy marking.Telling the Time Book 3 supports the National Curriculum requirements for Years 3 and 4 and covers the following topic areas: reading and writing the time to the nearest minute; converting between analogue and digital 12- and 24-hour clocks; comparing durations of events; Roman numerals; timetables; time zones; and solving problems involving converting between units of time (including seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years).
Join two friendly and funny robots, Beep and Boots, as they learn all about time and discover that maths is everywhere they look. Beep and Boots are looking forward to a day out at the zoo, especially getting to see their favourite animal - the giraffe. But they have to keep an eye on the time else they'll miss feeding time! It's all too easy to get distracted by lions, tigers, and tasty snacks - 15 minutes here, half an hour there! Pretty soon, Beep and Boots realise they might be late. Will they make it to the giraffe enclosure in time? Characterful illustrations and rhyming text bring Beep and Boots to life. Children aged 5-7 will love seeing the adventures the robot duo go on and will learn key mathematical concepts concerning time in a gentle, fun way, including telling the time and hours, minutes, and seconds. Questions at the end of the book reinforce learning and encourage kids to look at the maths they can see in the world around them.
An excellent visual aid in helping children to learn how to tell the time. A clear diagram indicates the division of the clock-face and illustrations show the significant times in a child's day, such as 'time to go to school' and 'time for lunch'. The wipe-clean clock allows children to practise drawing the hands on a clock to tell the time.

What an exciting day Dog is having! At 10 o'clock he goes outside to roll in the mud with his pals, the pigs. He's rather dirty after that, so at 11 o'clock it's time for a swim with the ducks. Splash! At 12 noon, Dog runs to find his owner Vicky, who is enjoying a picnic. Dog plays ball, chases Cat, and eats sandwiches. That should keep Dog going through the afternoon, which he spends with his best friend, Horse. At 5 o'clock, it's time to head for home. Then Dog hears Vicky calling him. Hooray! It's the best time of day of all - because 6 o'clock is suppertime! Bathtime at 7 o'clock is enjoyable as well, with lots of bubbles and puddles. Finally, 8 o'clock is Dog's bedtime. Goodnight Dog! An interactive clock and endearing pictures by popular illustrator Emma Dodd make this book a wonderful aid to learning that small children will want to return to time and time again.
