This book 'Mother Hubbard Her Picture Book' is one of many of
Walter Crane's 'Toy Books', it contains the stories, Mother
Hubbard, The Three Bears and The Absurd ABC. Many of the earliest
children's books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and
before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. Pook
Press are working to republish these classic works in affordable,
high quality, colour editions, using the original text and artwork
so these works can delight another generation of children. Walter
Crane (1845-1915) was one of the earliest contributors to
children's literature and one of the most influential illustrators
in the development of children's colour picture books. Crane began
working for Edmund Evans in 1864 producing bright, colourful books
which revolutionised the type of children's books available. He
created a series of 'Toy Books' between 1865-1875 which contained
fairy stories, nursery rhymes and other tales of adventures. His
Arts and Crafts illustrations came to typify children's books for
decades to come.

A young Aretha Franklin captivates her community with the song
"Respect" during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, in this
striking picture book biography that will embolden today's young
readers to sing their own truth. When Aretha Franklin sang, she
didn't just sing...she sparked a movement. As a performer and a
civil rights activist, the Queen of Soul used her voice to uplift
freedom fighters and the Black community during the height of the
1960s Civil Rights Movement. Her song "Respect" was an anthem of
identity, survival, and joy. It gave hope to people trying to make
change. And when Aretha sang, the world sang along. With Hanif
Abdurraqib's poetic voice and Ashley Evans's dynamic illustrations,
Sing, Aretha, Sing! demonstrates how one brave voice can give new
power to a nation, and how the legacy of Aretha Franklin lives on
in a world still fighting for freedom.

Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, 1887. At East London's Tilbury
Docks, Rani Das and Abdul Karim, step ashore after the long voyage
from India. One has to battle a society who deems her a
second-class citizen; the other forges an astonishing entanglement
with the ageing Queen Victoria who finds herself enchanted by
stories of an India over which she rules, but has never seen.
Through narrative, music and song, The Empress blends the true
story of Queen Victoria's controversial relationship with her
Indian servant and 'Munshi' (teacher), Abdul Karim, with the
experiences of Indian ayahs who came to Britain during the 19th
century. With private romance being mapped onto world history, the
action cuts between the ship and different royal residences,
offering bright contrasts as well as surprising affinities. In
doing so, the play uncovers remarkable unknown stories of
19th-century Britain and charts the growth of Indian nationalism
and the romantic proclivities of one of Britain's most surprising
monarchs. The Empress, which premiered at Stratford-upon-Avon's RSC
in 2013, is published here as a Methuen Drama Student Edition with
commentary and notes by Professor Jane Garnett, Wadham College,
University of Oxford, UK.

An illustrated biography about Vivaldi's childhood as well as how
he came to be a great composer. The CD contains recordings of some
of his most famous works and the narration of the story. Antonio
Vivaldi's father was a baker and a barber as well as being a
violinist by profession. Vivaldi became a priest very young and was
nicknamed the red priest because of his red hair. Children who have
tried making their own musical instruments or pretended to conduct
an orchestra will find that they have much in common with Vivaldi.
This book examines the paradox of creativity in art education and
proposes a possible resolution. Based on the findings of a
longitudinal ethnographic study as a particular case of creative
practice in art education, this book is underpinned by Bourdieu's
concepts of the habitus, symbolic capital and misrecognition. The
author offers an insightful account of social reasoning within
creative practice in the senior school art classroom, examining
ongoing exchanges between students and their teacher. Ultimately,
these exchanges culminate in actions, beliefs and desires about
what is creatively conceivable in the making of art, while
providing confirmation without corruption of the pedagogical role
of the art teacher. Allowing the context of creative agency to
emerge afresh, this book will be of interest and value to art
educators and teachers committed to fostering the creative
performances of students in any field.
