Many people search to find a good - and true - ghost story in San
Diego. It might surprise you to find that some tales you thought
were true, may be created from misconceptions, distortions, and
even made-up historic events. Find the scoop here as some of the
"truths" of San Diego's most famous haunts are debunked and stories
set straight via historical research. Just how haunted is the
Whaley House? Was "Yankee Jim" really hung on the property, or can
this and other Whaley tales be demystified? Is there still a
ghostly gunslinger's poker game going on at the Horton Grand Hotel
- were the players real or not? The ghost story surrounding Albert
Robinson and his burial and then subsequent haunting of Julian
Hotel is disturbing - but is it true? The reality and history of
many haunted places can be far more titillating without the smoke
and mirrors, exaggerations, and fabrications. So pull back the
curtain to find out what's behind San Diego's ghostly origins.

recognize who and what we are? Remember Her then. The Words and
Wisdom in this book will introduce you to who She really is...once
again...The Gathering of Daughters is a book filled with inspiring
and fulfilling words that lead the reader toward discovering a new
way of being.
Infamous Egyptian sorcerer al-Toukhi wrote more than 30 books on
magick, astrology, geomancy, and spirit evocation. He compiled many
power-house methods of sorcery from the archives of his manuscript
collection and from the manuscripts preserved in Egyptian
libraries. Harut and Marut by al-Toukhi is one of two known
existing grimoires paying homeage to the story of the two angels
who were sent down to test the people at Babel or Babylon by
performing deeds of magic. The authentic grimoire of Harut and
Marut is said to possess immense supernatural power and remains
lost to this day. Contained in this book are magical techniques,
incantations, and spells of the jinn worthy of the name Harut and
Marut.
This 78-card tarot deck is a healing tool and guide to explore both the light and shadow sides of our nature.
By reimagining the traditional tarot archetypes and symbols in a contemporary, boho, and intuitive style, The Light Seer's Tarot expresses the light and shadow sides of our natures and explores the lessons that can be learned from both.
The expressive characters who live within the landscapes of the cards tell stories, ask questions, and provide guidance. This deck is an ideal companion as you seek to uncover the places in your life-and in yourself-that are most in need of illumination.
Greek magical texts sometimes contain peculiar triangular
formations created by repeating the same word over and over again
in the same column, but leaving off one letter at the beginning or
end (or both). Interpretations shifted during the twentieth
century: did the words inscribed in these shapes represent the
names of diseases or evil demons which were forced to disappear as
each letter of the name does? Or were they the work of Roman period
scribes representing very different notions? This new study uses a
masterly survey of the known examples of these texts to argue for a
radical revision of recent views.
In The Secrets of Alchemy, Lawrence M. Principe, one of the world's
leading authorities on the subject, brings alchemy out of the
shadows and restores it to its important place in human history and
culture. By surveying what alchemy was and how it began, developed,
and overlapped with a range of ideas and pursuits, Principe
illuminates the practice. He vividly depicts the place of alchemy
during its heyday in early modern Europe, and then explores how
alchemy has fit into wider views of the cosmos and humanity,
touching on its enduring place in literature, fine art, theater,
and religion as well as its recent acceptance as a serious subject
of study for historians of science. In addition, he introduces the
reader to some of the most fascinating alchemists, such as Zosimos
and Basil Valentine, whose lives dot alchemy's long reign from the
third century down to the present day. Through his exploration of
alchemists and their times, Principe pieces together closely
guarded clues from obscure and fragmented texts to reveal alchemy's
secrets, and - most exciting for budding alchemists - uses them to
recreate many of the most famous recipes in his lab, including
those for the "glass of antimony" and "philosophers' tree." This
unique approach brings the reader closer to the actual work of
alchemy than any other book.

"The body of a woman who had been hanged infested by the devil
-- Hobgoblins that appeared near the castle of Lusignan in 1620 --
A Young Lady murdered by an evil Spirit through her impious wishes,
and afterwards transformed into a Black Cat -- The Night-mare -- A
young gentleman who sold himself to the devil."
These are just some of the forty-four short stories contained in
this strange collection. First published in 1804 during the height
of the Gothic literary phenomenon, Isabella Lewis's "Terrific
Tales" sought to capitalize on the public's fascination with
spectres, ghosts, demons, and other supernatural happenings.
But the most shocking thing about these horror stories is, as
Lewis claims, they are all true Meticulously culled from accounts
in ancient Roman texts, medieval monks' manuscripts, church
documents, and actual legal records, and supported by factual
evidence, these terrifying and bizarre tales will make even modern
readers reconsider their beliefs regarding the supernatural.
This curious book, which is very likely the first such
collection of ghost stories published in the English language, is
extremely rare today, with only four copies known to exist. The
Valancourt Books edition reprints the unabridged 1804 text,
together with a new preface, in a cloth-bound hardcover volume with
an attractive dust jacket.
A beautifully illustrated guide from a Celtic Wiccan High Priestess
to celebrating the Wiccan way, from Halloween to handfastings, as
well as everyday rituals to enhance all areas of your life. The
Wiccan calendar is marked by significant festivals, called sabbats.
The most famous is Halloween, also known as Samhain, but you will
be familiar with others, too, such as the Summer and Winter
Solstices. Wiccans celebrate these sabbats with rituals, crafts,
and food and drink, and in this book, Silja reveals how you can
bring some of that magic into your life, even if working as a
solitary witch. She also details other special days throughout the
year, such as August 23, the Roman festival of Vulcanalia, which is
celebrated with bonfires. Discover, too, how Wiccans celebrate
personal rites of passage, such as the naming of a baby and a
couple committing to each other in a Wiccan wedding, known as a
handfasting. Finally, Silja explains how to write your own daily,
weekly, or monthly rituals to bring you peace and happiness.
Lavishly illustrated throughout, this is your essential guide to
all your Wiccan celebrations.
