A full colour map based on a reconstruction of Winchester around
1800, just before Jane Austen's final days in the city. The map
shows the main medieval and post-medieval buildings in this
attractive and interesting city including the lost medieval Old
Minster, New Minster and the King's palace and hall. The map's
cover has a short introduction to the city's history, and on the
reverse of the map an illustrated gazetteer of Winchester's main
buildings and sites of interest.Combining clear cartography and
extensive research, this is a revised version of a map first
published in 2012. The new edition has been substantially updated,
with many more sites of historic importance added and map detail
refined. Of interest to historians and those who know and love
Winchester, the map charts the process of renewal and development
which has shaped one of England's most important cities.

History of and gazetteer to all surviving Welsh castles - the
majority 13c - arranged by county, with full OS details. The
medieval castles of Wales are an imposing group of monuments.
Although there are examples from the Norman period, the vast
majority of the surviving castles date from the thirteenth century,
a dramatic and turbulent period when Wales was nearly united under
native rule before succumbing to Edward I's conquest: Caernarfon,
Conway, Harlech and Beaumaris are justly famous, but equally fine
examples can be found elsewhere, including Pembroke, Kidwelly
andChepstow in south Wales; native Welsh castles feature
prominently. This book provides a brief account and complete
gazetteer of every surviving castle in Wales, from the impressive
earthworks raised by the Norman invaders to the castle-palaces of
the later middle ages, and including the remarkable town
fortifications of Wales; it is arranged by county for convenience
of reference, and offers full Ordnance Survey details. Lavishly
illustrated. ADRIAN PETTIFER gained his degree in ancient and
medieval history from Birmingham University.
This full-colour road atlas features 30 pages of continuous road
mapping. Includes Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Plymouth Somerset and
Torbay. Published at a clear 2.5 miles to 1 inch the following
features are shown on the road mapping: Motorways with full
junction detail, primary routes and destinations, A & B roads,
under construction and proposed roads, service areas, tolls,
mileages, county and unitary authority boundaries Selected places
of interest and tourist information centres Also included are 3
city plans for Exeter, Plymouth and Taunton. The comprehensive
index section lists cities, towns, villages, hamlets and locations
covered by this atlas.
