The latest follow-up to the famous 1964 'World in Action' special directed by Michael Apted that looked at the lives of seven-year-olds from a variety of social backgrounds. With extraordinary ambition, the show set out to study the extent to which children's backgrounds influenced their future prospects, with Apted returning to visit the participants at seven year intervals to see how they were getting on. In 2012 the original participants had reached the age of 56, however all but one of the 14 agreed to appear in the show and discuss their lives, hopes and disappointments.

The show, which ran from 1957 until its star's untimely death in 1966, was performed on stage and featured a mixture of sketches, music and guest appearances. It quickly became one of ITV's biggest successes and established Haynes as a household name, along with his 'straight man', Nicholas Parsons. To repay the government for their help, Steve joins the Office of Scientific Investigation, overseen by Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson), and uses his new powers to help fight crime, espionage and other threats to the nation's peace and stability.

The Doctor and Ace attempt to bring down Helen A's regime but first they will need to deal with her followers, including demented executioner the Kandy Man (David John Pope).

Somebody on board the Empress is smuggling Vraxoin, a deadly addictive drug, and matters are complicated still further when the Mandrells, a race of monsters being transported from the planet Eden, are let loose on board the ship.
