A local biker-gang leader (Mickey Rourke), despite reforming his ways, is still the hero of local adolescents. His younger brother (Matt Dillon) idolises him, even though his mentor strives to persuade him that he has done nothing to be proud of. Shot in black and white (with occasional touches of colour), this is an atmospheric rites-of-passage tale with a musical score by Stewart Copeland and featuring many members of the so-called eighties 'Brat Pack'.

Gaspar Noé writes, directs and produces this explicit romantic drama. The story follows American film student Murphy (Karl Glusman) who has split-up with his French girlfriend Elektra (Aomi Muyock) after cheating on her with another woman, named Omi (Klara Kristin). Two years later, a worried phone call from Elektra's mother causes Murphy to spend New Year's Eve in search of his former lover as he ponders how their relationship fell apart.

Oliver Stone's detailed examination of possible answers to unsolved mysteries surrounding John F. Kennedy's assassination. Kevin Costner plays New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison, who remained unconvinced by the Warren Commission Report and launched his own investigation. This film was released on a wave of controversy and led to calls for Congress to re-open government records from the 1977 House Select Committee on the assassination. Stone weaves actual archive footage with historical reconstruction and conjecture to present his argument that Kennedy was killed by the CIA due to his desire to withdraw troops from Vietnam. The film gained several Oscar nominations and Stone won a Golden Globe award for Best Director.

Synthetic Kryptonite turns the normally upstanding Superman into a low-grade Supersleaze, clearing the path for a megalomaniac tycoon and a computer whiz to take over the world.

Superman 4: The Quest for Peace (1987)

Superman Returns (2006)

Lois Lane is engaged, and to make matters worse, his arch-nemesis Lex Luthor has contrived a plot to build a continent using the crystals of Krypton that will wipe out most of North America. Superman must again race against time to stop the psychopathic Luthor before it's too late.

Matt Damon stars in this sci-fi thriller directed by Ridley Scott. During a mission to Mars, a crew of NASA astronauts are caught in a storm that leaves Mark Watney (Damon) missing and presumed dead. Stanley Kubrick's controversial film triggered copycat violence on its initial release and as a result the director withdrew the film from circulation in Britain, keeping it suppressed right up to his death in 1999. The film follows sadistic punk Alex (Malcolm McDowell) as he takes his gang on a rape and murder spree, showing absolutely no mercy to any of his victims. When he is eventually captured, the authorities subject him to a series of experiments designed to rid him of his violent tendencies.

A double bill of the classic 70's thrillers featuring an Oscar-winning Gene Hackman as 'Popeye' Doyle. In the first film Doyle and Buddy Russo (Roy Scheider) are tough New York cops attempting to crack a drug smuggling ring. They have a small candy store under surveillance, but Doyle is not happy when he receives the order to work with a pair of French federal agents on the case, one of whom he has a long-standing feud with. Hackman and director William Friedkin both earned Oscars for the film, which also took the award for Best Picture. Whilst in the sequel Doyle (Hackman) travels to Marseilles to track down Charnier (Fernando Rey), the leader of a drug smuggling ring whom he failed to capture in the first film. Kidnapped by dealers and pumped with heroin, Doyle has to kick his new-found habit before he can set about his revenge.

Director David Fincher's cut of his acclaimed thriller based on actual case files surrounding the notorious San Francisco Bay area murders of the 1970s. As the serial killer known as 'Zodiac' taunts the police with letters and cryptic clues, reporters and investigators become increasingly obsessed with finding the murderer's identity, as the cat and mouse game impacts on their professional and personal lives. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr.
