Racehorse Publishing's Quintessential Children's Classics series is a collection of timeless children's literature. Handsomely packaged and affordable, this new series aims to revitalize these enchanting works, and continue the tradition of sharing them with the next generation of readers. Flash back to your childhood. We all remember hearing the remarkable, rhyming tales from a mystery woman known only by the name "Mother Goose." Having been reprinted hundreds of times and passed down from generation to generation, Mother Goose's stories are some of the most popular children's poetry in the world. Originally made popular in the 17th century, these rhymes were on the forefront of fairy tale literature, and are often cited as the beginning of the genre. Now, these nursery rhymes are made available again in this stunning re-packaging of the classic Volland edition. This edition includes over one hundred and ten of Mother Goose's most famous nursery rhymes, a foreword, and full color illustrations on every page by renowned illustrator Frederick Richardson.
Pat-a-Cake," "Simple Simon," "Rock-a-bye, Baby: " these and the many other rhymes that make up "Mother Goose" have become almost as much a staple of child-rearing as the rattle and the bottle. Little ones love its mix of lullabies and limericks, humor and sing-song verse, and they learn from it too. Gyo Fujikawa brought her inimitable style to this version, which features a mix of enchanting line drawings and warm color pictures. Adorable mice, led by a duck in uniform, man the boat in "I Saw a Ship a-Sailing." A multicultural group of children circle round "The Mulberry Bush." And "The Three Kittens" have never been cuter. Fujikawa has succeeded in creating a truly magical world for kids to enter.

Ever since Ellie wore a whale swimsuit and made a big splash at her fifth birthday party, she's been bullied about her weight. To cope, she tries to live by the Fat Girl Rules - like "no making waves," "avoid eating in public," and "don't move so fast that your body jiggles." And she's found her safe space - her swimming pool - where she feels weightless in a fat-obsessed world. In the water, she can stretch herself out like a starfish and take up all the room she wants. It's also where she can get away from her pushy mum, who thinks criticising Ellie's weight will motivate her to diet. Fortunately, Ellie has allies in her dad, her therapist, and her new neighbour, Catalina, who loves Ellie for who she is. With this support buoying her, Ellie might finally be able to cast aside the Fat Girl Rules and starfish in real life - by unapologetically being her own fabulous self.
