MIMO Wireless Networks - Channels, Techniques and Standards for Multi-Antenna, Multi-User and Multi-Cell Systems (Hardcover,... MIMO Wireless Networks - Channels, Techniques and Standards for Multi-Antenna, Multi-User and Multi-Cell Systems (Hardcover, 2nd edition)
Bruno Clerckx, Claude Oestges
R2,374 Discovery Miles 23 740 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

This book is unique in presenting channels, techniques and standards for the next generation of MIMO wireless networks. Through a unified framework, it emphasizes how propagation mechanisms impact the system performance under realistic power constraints. Combining a solid mathematical analysis with a physical and intuitive approach to space-time signal processing, the book progressively derives innovative designs for space-time coding and precoding as well as multi-user and multi-cell techniques, taking into consideration that MIMO channels are often far from ideal. Reflecting developments since the first edition was published, this book has been thoroughly revised, and now includes new sections and five new chapters, respectively dealing with receiver design, multi-user MIMO, multi-cell MIMO, MIMO implementation in standards, and MIMO system-level evaluation.

Extended introduction to multi-dimensional propagation, including polarization aspects

Detailed and comparative description of physical models and analytical representations of single- and multi-link MIMO channels, covering the latest standardized models

Thorough overview of space-time coding techniques, covering both classical and more recent schemes under information theory and error probability perspectives

Intuitive illustration of how real-world propagation affects the capacity and the error performance of MIMO transmission schemes

Detailed information theoretic analysis of multiple access, broadcast and interference channels

In-depth presentation of multi-user diversity, resource allocation and (non-)linear MU-MIMO precoding techniques with perfect and imperfect channel knowledge

Extensive coverage of cooperative multi-cell MIMO-OFDMA networks, including network resource allocation optimization, coordinated scheduling, beamforming and power control, interference alignment, joint processing, massive and network MIMO

Applications of MIMO and Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) in LTE, LTE-A and WiMAX

Theoretical derivations and results contrasted with practical system level evaluations highlighting the performance of single- and multi-cell MIMO techniques in realistic deployments"

Cross-Layer Resource Allocation in Wireless Communications - Techniques and Models from PHY and MAC Layer Interaction... Cross-Layer Resource Allocation in Wireless Communications - Techniques and Models from PHY and MAC Layer Interaction (Hardcover, New)
Ana I. Perez-Neira, Marc Realp Campalans
R2,048 Discovery Miles 20 480 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Resource allocation in wireless networks is traditionally approached either through information theory or communications networks. To break down the barriers between these distinct approaches, this book (whose preparation is carried out under the auspices of the EC Network of Excellence in Wireless Communications NEWCOM++) bridges the physical and network layers by providing cross-layer resource allocation techniques, models and methodologies.
Cross-Layer Resource Allocation's unique approach allows optimisation of network resources and will enable engineers to improve signal quality, enhance network and spectrum utilization, increase throughput, and solve the problem of shadowing. Topics covered include different views of spectral efficiency, the role of spatial diversity, of delay in resource allocation, and possible extensions to OFDMA systems.
This will be an ideal reference on cross-layer resource allocation between the PHY and MAC layers for R&D and network design engineers and researchers in universities dealing with sensor networks and cognitive systems.
""This is a nice treatise on the cross-layer optimization of wireless systems. The authors offer a useful guide on a timely subject most relevant to future generation of wireless communications." - Lang Tong, Irwin and Joan Jacobs Professor in Engineering, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Cornell University, USA"
""The authors have written a book that offers to researchers and practitioners a thorough and comprehensive overview, with a cross-layer perspective, of theory, models and methods related to resource allocation in multi-user wireless systems." - Professor Velio Tralli, University of FerraraCommunication Technologies Laboratory"
Ana I. Perez-Neira is Professor of Signal Theory and Communication at Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, and Research Associate at Centre Tecnologic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya Castelldefels (CTTC).
Marc Realp Campalans has worked as a Research Associate in the Access Technologies Area at CTTC since 2002.
* Gives a full description of the characteristics of the PHY layer that promote efficient resource allocation strategies

Roberto Verdone, Davide Dardari, Gianluca Mazzini, Andrea Conti
R2,374 Discovery Miles 23 740 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

When choosing the technology options to develop a wireless sensor network (WSN), it is vital that their performance levels can be assessed for the type of application intended. This book describes the different technology options - MAC protocols, routing protocols, localisation and data fusion techniques - and provides the means to numerically measure their performance, whether by simulation, mathematical models or experimental test beds. Case studies, based on the authors' direct experience of implementing wireless sensor networks, describe the design methodology and the type of measurements used, together with samples of the performance measurements attained.
The book will enable you to answer vital questions such as:
* How long will my network remain alive given the amount of sensing required of it?
* For how long should I set the sleeping state of my motes?
* How many sensors should I distribute to meet the expected requirements of the application?
* What type of throughput should I expect as a function of the number of nodes deployed and the radio interface chosen (whether it be Bluetooth or Zigbee)?
* How is the Packet Error Rate of my Zigbee motes affected by the selection of adjacent frequency sub bands in the ISM 2.4GHz band?
* How is the localisation precision dependant on the number of nodes deployed in a corridor?
Communications and signal processing engineers, researchers and graduate students working in wireless sensor networks will find this book an invaluable practical guide to this important technology.
""This book gives a proper balance between theory and application; it is a book for those R&D engineers that want to appreciate both why, how and in which domains Wireless Sensor Networks can be best applied."" - Fabio Bellifemine, Telecom Italia
