Every year, thousands of couples choose to marry in an Anglican church using the words of the Common Worship marriage service. This expanded version of the best-selling Marriage booklet has been designed to help couples and clergy plan the service with ease. Featuring both the contemporary Common Worship form of the service and the traditional language Solemnization of Matrimony (as popularised by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge), it also contains popular hymns, readings and prayers suitable for weddings, as well as advice on how couples can personalize the service. It makes an ideal gift for clergy to give to couples and can be used as an order of service on the day of the wedding itself.

I decided to create a wedding planner and keepsake book so that the bride could have all her information in one place. It''s so handy for the planning of a wedding, but it''s a whole new book when the wedding day is done. I look at mine now and I remember all the great dresses, websites, flowers, rings and outrageous ideas I loved and might not have used. Then I look to the back and I am always thankful for all that we were given. It''s a fast time in a couple''s life so it''s great to have a book that documents the whole planning process from the first idea to the actual wedding day.
Readings for Weddings' is an inspirational collection of Bible quotations, poems, hymns and prose for secular weddings, church ceremonies and services of blessing. Mark Oakley includes such "wedding classics" as 1 Corinthians 13 and Khalil Gibran's 'The Prophet', the poetry of Shelley and Elizabeth Barret Browning, and verse by Wendy Cope and other witty, contemporary poets. Mark Oakley takes a fresh approach to preparing couples for their big day. He re-thinks the church wedding and puts humour, aspiration, poetry and love at the heart of the service. ""'Readings for Weddings' puts poetry where it should be: at the heart of a great defining moment. Mark Oakley's selection is exemplary: surprising but appropriate, tender but unsentimental, dignified but vivacious. Every happy couple, let alone their guests, will be grateful.""
