I decided to create a wedding planner and keepsake book so that the bride could have all her information in one place. It''s so handy for the planning of a wedding, but it''s a whole new book when the wedding day is done. I look at mine now and I remember all the great dresses, websites, flowers, rings and outrageous ideas I loved and might not have used. Then I look to the back and I am always thankful for all that we were given. It''s a fast time in a couple''s life so it''s great to have a book that documents the whole planning process from the first idea to the actual wedding day.
Readings for Weddings' is an inspirational collection of Bible quotations, poems, hymns and prose for secular weddings, church ceremonies and services of blessing. Mark Oakley includes such "wedding classics" as 1 Corinthians 13 and Khalil Gibran's 'The Prophet', the poetry of Shelley and Elizabeth Barret Browning, and verse by Wendy Cope and other witty, contemporary poets. Mark Oakley takes a fresh approach to preparing couples for their big day. He re-thinks the church wedding and puts humour, aspiration, poetry and love at the heart of the service. ""'Readings for Weddings' puts poetry where it should be: at the heart of a great defining moment. Mark Oakley's selection is exemplary: surprising but appropriate, tender but unsentimental, dignified but vivacious. Every happy couple, let alone their guests, will be grateful."" Andrew Motion, Poet Laureate
As a wedding photographer, I have been witness to over 500 weddings. I wrote this book because I have seen too many wedding disasters that could have easily been avoided had the couple just prepared early. Additionally, when a bride tries to cut corners by having family or friends handle her wedding arrangements, almost without fail, something is going to go wrong. There are certain skills that true wedding professionals have worked hard to master. When it comes to a wedding, the old saying, "you get what you pay for" is not just a metaphor, it's a reality. The purpose of this book is twofold: to show the bride how, with just a little more effort, she can plan a wedding that runs smoothly, and insures her beautiful wedding photographs or video. To this latter goal, I've included boxed Photo Tips throughout the book.
"A very funny, candid, and heartwarming look at bridal mania.
