It has been observed that the traditions, philosophies and beliefs
that enjoy historical longevity are not those that remain static
and unchanging, but rather those that evolve and adapt to meet the
needs of different or changing societies. And that truth, of
course, can be extended to religions and spiritualities that by
necessity must remain relevant to peoples' lives or become
intellectual museum pieces. With topics ranging from CyberWitches
to Activism, from Web Weaving to Urban Witchcraft, from the Arts to
Kitchen and Solitary Witchcraft and more, What is Modern
Witchcraft? considers contemporary developments in the ancient
craft and discusses a number of questions and issues that are
frequently raised today. What is Modern Witchcraft? is edited by
Trevor Greenfield and features essays from Morgan Daimler, Annette
George, Irisanya Moon, Rebecca Beattie, Philipp J. Kessler, Amie
Ravenson, Rachel Patterson, Melusine Draco, Dorothy Abrams, Arietta
Bryant and Mabh Savage.

This ABC primer is a playful and richly symbolic introduction to
the world of Wicca and the magic of Nature. Illustrated poems bring
to light the Pagan Path, with each letter featuring a Wee Witch
learning about the wheel of the year, tools of the Craft, rites of
passage, faerie friends, and meaningful colors. This is a helpful
and affirming tool for Pagan families, as well as an appealing
collection of subtle, educational light verse for their budding Wee
Witches, including A for Acorn, M for Maypole, and S for Spiderweb.
Accurate symbols of Witches' worldview are woven throughout the
magical artwork, as well as hidden clues to a secret "Witch Name"
revealed at the end of the book.
Hekate - Liminal Rites A Study of the Rituals, Magic and Symbols of
the torch-bearing Triple Goddess of the Crossroads by Sorita d'Este
and David Rankine At the crossroads of life, death and rebirth
stands the Goddess Hekate. Honoured by men, women and gods alike,
traces of her ancient provenance reach back through the millennia
providing clues about her nature and origins along the way.
Depictions of her as three formed facing in three ways, sometimes
with the heads of animals such as the horse, dog and snake hint at
her liminal nature, as well as the powers she holds over the triple
realms of earth, sea and sky. The sorcery of Medea and Circe, the
witchcraft of the women of Thessaly, the writings of philosophers
such as Hesiod and Porphyry all provide glimpses into the world of
those who honoured her. Her magical powers were considered so great
that even King Solomon became associated with her, she was
incorporated into Jewish magic, and merged with other goddesses
including Artemis, Selene, Bendis and the Egyptian Isis. Whilst for
some she was the Witch Goddess, for others she was the ruler of
angels and daimons, who made predictions about Jesus and
Christianity. Wherever you look, be it in the texts of Ancient
Greece and Rome, Byzantium or the Renaissance, the Greek Magical
Papyri or the Chaldean Oracles, you will find Hekate. The magical
whir of the strophalos and the barbarous words of the voces magicae
carry her message; the defixiones, love spells and charms all
provides us with examples of the magic done in her name. She was
also associated with the magic of death, including necromancy and
reanimation; as well as prophetic dreams, nightmares, healing herbs
and poisons. The temples dedicated to her and the important role
she played in the mysteries of Eleusis, Samothrace and Aigina all
provide us with clues to her majesty. The popular shrines at the
doorways of ordinary people, offerings left at the crossroads and
guardian statues of her at the entrance ways to cities and temples
all attest to her status in the hearts and minds of those who knew
her mysteries. In this book the authors draw from a wide range of
sources, bringing together historical research which provides
insights into the magical and religious practices associated with
this remarkable Goddess. In doing so they provide an indispensable
guide for those wishing to explore the mysteries of Hekate today.
About the Authors Sorita d'Este and David Rankine are esoteric
researchers, mythologists and modern day magicians who have between
them authored more than twenty published books on magic, mythology,
folklore and the occult. Sorita is the editor of the anthology
"HEKATE KEYS TO THE CROSSROADS" and the author of Artemis Virgin
Goddess of the Sun & Moon. Together they have produced titles
such as Visions of the Cailleach, The Isles of the Many Gods and
The Guises of the Morrigan.
Wales had a rich gallery of magical specialists (prophets,
cunning-men, physicians etc), including many who were suspected of
harmful witchcraft. Richard Suggett examines all types of magical
specialists, including those regarded as beneficial as well as
harmful. Popular belief in witchcraft in Wales did not decline with
the abolition of the Witchcraft Act in 1736. Indeed belief in
witchcraft beliefs became darker in form and was transformed into a
novel form of cursing the use of cursing wells, many of which are
still in existence in Wales.
Modern Witch is a captivating witchcraft lifestyle book full of
lush photography and art as well as spells, recipes, charms, and
rituals. The esthetic meets the esoteric as author and creator
Devin Hunter shows how to work magic for love, healing, protection,
prosperity, and divination. The stunning color photos throughout
this book capture actual workings in progress to help you build a
magical practice that is wholly your own and adjust the practices
to meet your specific needs.
This classic work is now available for the first time in paperback.
Since 1951, when the last of the Witchcraft Acts was repealed, many
books have been written about the reappearance of witchcraft and
the development of a pagan theology. Churchmen have denounced it.
Sociologists have wondered at it. Journalists have penned
sensational stories about it. But until the publication of this
book, no one had told the real story of it from the inside as
frankly as it is told here. Doreen Valiente, one of witchcraft's
most widely known figures, was a close friend of the late Gerald
Gardner, generally regarded as the founder of present-day
witchcraft. Initiated by him and for a time High Priestess of his
coven, Doreen Valiente helped him rewrite his seminal Book of
Shadows. She records the break with Gardner that split his coven,
the controversy surrounding Alex Sanders, 'King of the Witches' and
memories of many other witches whom she has known, including the
lady called 'Dafo', Robert Cochrane, Leslie Roberts and Sybil Leek.
Doreen Valiente took part in many witchcraft rituals and had
strange psychic experiences as a result. Described here are the
clairvoyant communications she received purporting to come from
'John Brakespeare', an eighteenth-century witch. The Rebirth of
Witchcraft traces the lineage of the present-day witchcraft from
its forerunners through to modern feminist neo-paganism and the new
wave of interest in ecology and holistic medicine.
Witchcraft isn't always about the search for enlightenment;
sometimes it's about power and the path to obtaining it. The
Witch's Book of Power shares the secrets to unlocking the witch
power within you through: * getting to know the source of witch
power * working with your three souls * exploring the Pentacle of
Sovereignty * applying astrological knowledge * using ecstatic
practices, breathing exercises, and meditation * connecting to
archetypes, deities, and nonphysical allies. Devin has helped
thousands of people discover their power and in this book he
skilfully explores the concepts behind creating magic that can
change your life. The Witch's Book of Power is the perfect resource
for witches who know they can do better in life but need guidance
on how to get there.
