This collection of essays focuses on critical analyses of Indian
writing in English in various genres of the modern to postmodern
period. The main section examines the critical reception of Indian
writing in the German media and the place of Indian literature in
German schools. Equally important are gender issues in prose and
poetry by Indian women writers and the work of major authors like
Salman Rushdie and Amitav Ghosh. The concluding section gives a
survey of the work on Indian writing that has greatly increased in
the German academy. The conclusion ends with a bibliography of
German criticism on Indian writing.
