Electron transfer is the simplest of chemical reactions in that it
does not normally involve the breaking and making of bonds. It is
also of fundamental importance in biology, especially in the
electron transport of chains of respiration and photosynthesis, but
also in a wide range of other reactions not directly involved in
energy coupling.
