Im Buch wird aufgezeigt, wie Aktivitat und Partizipation von Menschen mit intellektueller Beeintrachtigung im Wohnheimalltag moeglich ist. Ziel des Autors ist es, uber eine ausfuhrliche Darstellung und Beurteilung des Selbstbestimmungsbegriffes die Brucke hin zum neuen Konzept der "Aktiven Partizipation" zu schlagen. Mit Hilfe der sogenannten Konversationsanalyse wertet er ca. 90 Stunden Videomaterial aus, das uber Kamerabrillen erhoben wurde. Er zeigt auf, dass Aktivitat und Partizipation moeglich wird, wenn zwischen den Menschen mit intellektueller Beeintrachtigung und den Betreuungspersonen Kooperationsverhaltnisse gelingen. Diese Kooperationsverhaltnisse werden von ihm systematisch erfasst, illustriert und detailliert beschrieben.
