Harold Child (1869-1945) was a literary critic and writer who was
prominent in the development of dramatic criticism, notably in his
work on the history of Shakespearean production. Originally
published in 1948, this collection appeared shortly after Child's
death, and contains a memoir by noted Cambridge publisher Sir
Sydney Castle Roberts (1887-1966). The text presents a broad
selection of Child's writings, including everything from critical
essays to informal pieces on topics such as 'Reading in Bed',
exhibiting his lucid and engaging style. This is a highly readable
book which will be of value to anyone with an interest in the works
of Child, journalism and literary criticism.
