John Torrance artfully captures all of the best qualities of prayer
in this collection of his public prayers. The prayers were first
offered in the context of worship services at Yorkminster Park
Baptist Church, Toronto, Ontario, Canada and they reflect the human
situation of real people in that context. Voicing a public prayer
in the context of leading worship is a special act. It requires
some understanding of the congregation and its context. There is an
underlying theological framework that informs the prayer. The
leader must have a personal faith for the prayer to have
