This is the first study of the aftermath of the New Zealand Wars of
the 1860s. It considers the effect of the wars on the Maori people
of Waikato, Taranaki, and Hawkes Bay, and draws heavily on Maori
sources. Special emphasis is given to Maori leaders Te Whiti and
Tawhiao.
