Transhumanismus wird oft als Konglomerat spekulativer Technikvisionen, als Enhancement-Utopie oder als Science-Fiction betrachtet. Der Autor setzt sich kritisch mit gangigen Auffassungen uber die Denkform Transhumanismus auseinander und argumentiert, dass sie eine bedeutsame programmatische Entwicklung, eine Hinwendung zur akademischen Wissenschaft, weitgehend ubersehen. Unter Zugrundelegung der wissenschaftstheoretischen Methodologie von Imre Lakatos rekonstruiert er Transhumanismus als Forschungsprogramm mit hartem Kern, Schutzgurtel und Vorhersagen. Hierin zeigt er, inwiefern der Transhumanismus eine technikphilosophisch bedeutsame Perspektive zum Umgang mit neuartigen Technologien eroeffnet, ohne fur dessen normative Positionen einzutreten.
