Newport RFC played their first game in 1876, and quickly
established themselves as one of the leading clubs in the country.
They played a dominant role in Welsh and British rugby, providing
the national team with some of its greatest stars. The 'Black and
Ambers' are one of a select group of teams in world rugby to have
beaten the All Blacks, Wallabies and the Springboks. Formed in 2003
as a result of the regionalisation of Welsh rugby, Newport Gwent
Dragons started life with a third place finish in the 2003/04
Celtic League. Some notable club highlights include reaching the
semi-finals of the European Challenge Cup in 2007 and 2015, and
reaching the final of the Anglo-Welsh Cup in 2011. Like Newport
RFC, they play at Rodney Parade, one of Welsh Rugby's spiritual
homes. Peter Jones documents Newport's most iconic players and
managers from the team's early beginnings to the present day. With
unprecedented access to the club's archives, Newport Rugby Greats
provides a history of some of the club's heroes, complete with
facts and figures, along with their most memorable games.
