How do you teach the grace and quiet confidence that comes with the permission to be yourself? How do you teach someone to know what to do when they don’t know what to do? That kind of leadership cannot be taught. It must be experienced and understood, and it is a profoundly personal and dynamic journey.
Leading with Humanity is an invitation to take the first steps on the inside-out journey of understanding what it is to become and be a leader – discovering who we are meant to be in a world obsessed with what we do. Drawing from great thinkers and leaders through the centuries – and decades of personal leadership experience – Peter Laburn’s Leading with Humanity combines time-tested philosophical notions with proven research principles into an authentic guide for anyone striving to be a better human being, and thus a better leader, in business and life.
Living as a human being is challenging in a world that encourages and incentivises us to operate as human doings.

A refreshing and inspiring book about true leadership

In a world where profit and numbers are often seen as more important than the growth and wellbeing of people, it was refreshing and inspiring to read Pete Laburn’s book on Leading with Humanity.
The book provides a wealth of valuable input to current and future leaders looking to make a meaningful and positive difference in an ever changing world. From the importance of purpose, vision, values and company culture; to understanding who you really are and leading with authenticity; to the importance of empathy, staying grounded and connectedness, the book outlines key principles to becoming someone who truly leads, influences and inspires people (as opposed to one who manages outcomes and what gets done).
Chapter 10 of the book is titled “Leaders give, continuously” and states that leaders answer a call for service, not status. This chapter in itself is powerful and points to what leaders need to become if we are going to resolve the pressing issues of our time.
While many of us may have been exposed to leadership that is self serving, this book encourages us to think very differently about what it is to be a leader and to understand that: “It is employees who make a company great, and it is the leader’s job to enable them to do that.”

I have had the privilege of working with Pete during his workshops in the African bush and thoroughly looked forward to each of them because of the lessons and advice that I would walk away with after sessions with Pete. I am thrilled that now he has written a book which allows me revisit these golden nuggets of leadership lessons and its a sure thing that his book will live on my desk to refer back to. An incredibly valuable addition to my library.
