This book shows engineers with little or no previous exposure to
experimental design how to use statistically designed experiments
to improve products and processes. A prerequisite is an
appreciation for the concept of random variation, gained through a
typical statistics course or by using statistical process control
in a manufacturing environment. Dr Taguchi has added greatly to our
understanding of the importance of properly designed experiments in
quality improvement and has provided a structured approach to
designing quality into products and processes. His use of
experimental designs to reduce variability and make designs more
robust has had a major influence on perceptions of the role of
experimental design in quality improvement. This book also covers
other methods, such as the important work of Dr George Box and his
associates on orthogonal designs.
