This work addresses the interaction between demographic and
employment dynamics in the European Community on the one hand and
technological change on the other. It focuses on the problems that
can arise from an ageing society and relates them to the
possibilities offered by technological change, which has become a
necessary tool with which European societies can offset labour
force decline, particularly among younger skilled workers. There is
an analysis of how the advance of technology relates to the
changing structure of industry. At the same time, the book
acknowledges the difficulties inherent in attempting to assess the
relative technological status of countries.
