Auf kunstvolle Weise verbindet Wolframs Roman den Artus- mit dem Gralsstoff und entfaltet ein handlungs- und figurenreiches Panorama der ritterlich-hoefischen Kultur des Mittelalters. Im Mittelpunkt der Erzahlung steht Parzival, der nach verschiedenen Stationen des Scheiterns und Versagens schliesslich den leidenden Gralkoenig Anfortas durch die Mitleidsfrage erloest und auf der Gralsburg Munsalvaesche die Herrschaft antritt. Die zweite Auflage bietet unverandert den massgeblichen Text nach Karl Lachmann und die hoch gelobte UEbersetzung von Peter Knecht. Als Neuerung enthalt sie eine konzise Einfuhrung in grundlegende Editions- und Interpretationsprobleme von Bernd Schirok.
