Al vyf van die gewilde Nederlandse Polleke-boeke is nou saam in een band in Afrikaans beskikbaar! Polleke het ’n kerel, Mimoen. Maar sy geloof en sy kultuur maak hulle vriendskap byna onmoontlik. Polleke se pa, Spiek, loop rond en gebruik dwelms. Hy ken al hele stukke uit sy kop, wat hy op sy eie manier met humor en fantasie probeer verstaan. Sy pa hou nie van Thomas se manier nie. As sy ma weer eens met harde klappe deur sy pa tot die ware geloof gebring word, besluit Thomas dat dit tyd is vir 'n Egiptiese plaag. Daarom gooi hy lemoenstroop in die vistenk sodat die water soos die Nyl in bloed moet verander... Thomas dink sy tienersuster is so dom soos 'n ui, maar hy is verlief op haar gestremde vriendin met die leerbeen wat kraak-kraak, Eliza. Hy sien gereeld dinge wat nie bestaan nie – sy ma noem hom haar "droomkoninkie" – en hy voer gesprekke met Jesus (soms lyk Hy soos Thomas se oupa en soms soos sy tante....). Daar is dan ook ’n paar plaasbewoners wat ’n draai kom maak: Werfbobbejaan, wat sy lyf tans kundige van gemengde boerdery hou; en die Hoenderhaan, die enigste lid van die geselskap wat met so ’n ietsie tussen die ore geseen is.

Vloeibare middelpunt is Martjie Bosman se derde digbundel en volg op Toevallige tekens (2010) en Landelik (2003), waarvoor sy met die Ingrid Jonker-prys bekroon is.
