Through contemporary theories of cosmopolitanism and analyses of
literary texts such as Heart of Darkness, Lilith's Brood, and
Moby-Dick, this book explores the cosmopolitan impulses behind the
literary imagination. Patell argues that cosmopolitanism regards
human difference as an opportunity to be embraced rather than a
problem to be solved.
This book contains advanced-level research material in the area
of lubrication theory and related aspects, presented by eminent
researchers during the International Conference on Advances in
Tribology and Engineering Systems (ICATES 2013) held at Gujarat
Technological University, Ahmedabad, India during October 15 17,
2013. The material in this book represents the advanced field of
tribology and reflects the work of many eminent researchers from
both India and abroad. The treatment of the presentations is the
result of the contributions of several professionals working in the
industry and academia. This book will be useful for students,
researchers, academicians, and professionals working in the area of
tribology, in general, and bearing performance characteristics, in
particular, especially from the point-of-view of design. This book
will also appeal to researchers and professionals working in
fluid-film lubrication and other practical applications of
tribology. A wide range of topics has been included despite space
and time constraints. Basic concepts and fundamentals techniques
have been emphasized upon, while also including highly specialized
topics and methods (such as nanotribology, bio-nanotribology). Care
has been taken to generate interest for a wide range of readers,
considering the interdisciplinary nature of the subject."

Montreal has had a longstanding interest in somatostatin. Two years
ago when the final planning began for the International Con gress
of Endocrinology in Quebec City in July 1984, we seized the op
portunity for having a separate Satellite Symposium on somatostatin
here in Montreal. We felt that after a decade of uniformly vigorous
growth in somatostatin research, the opportune moment had arrived
for a review of the most significant past developments and for
setting the directions for the future. Knowing the futility of
trying to cover every aspect of the burgeoning somatostatin field
in a two day scientific program, we opted for a detailed analysis
of selected areas which were reasonably mature and of areas of
greatest new activity. To attain these objectives, 27 leading
international experts actively involved in their fields were
invited to present an indepth review of their work in one of five
major categories of somatostatin research. Thirty minutes at the
end of each session were assigned for a three way, comprehensive
discussion of some of the core concepts between the session
moderators, the panellists and the audience. The feedback that we
have received from the particip ants leaves little doubt that the
meeting was a scientific and social success. This book fulfills our
final commitment towards the Meeting which was to record the
proceedings in a timely publication.
Patients' failure to complete a simple prescription course presents
a tremendous public health problem and a considerable challenge for
practicing clinicians. For those with chronic mental illnesses,
non-adherence is an even greater problem than in other patient
populations and substantially lowers the possibility of improvement
or recovery. Additionally, adherence to treatment is further
undermined by impairments in insight that often accompany mental
illness. Much has been written about non-adherence across medical
specialties. Yet, the topic of non-adherence in psychiatric
patients is so common and complex that it merits review in its own
right.
Using the most up-to-date research available, this book summarizes
the current knowledge concerning non-adherence in mental illness,
presenting concise, practical information on such topics as the
reasons behind medication non-adherence, detection of
non-adherence, and the pharmacological and non-pharmacological
options available to clinicians to manage non-adherence. The
authors review the effectiveness of psycho-education, brief
counseling, compliance therapy, cognitive adaptive strategies,
reminder electronic monitoring strategies, family therapy, peer
support and recovery, and assertive community treatment (ACT), as
well as assess the legal issues around patient adherence, including
outpatient commitment and Kendra's law.
Importantly, the text also addresses the ever evolving role of
psychiatrists in managing adherence, focusing on the rapid advances
in pharmacology, in light of the new and broadening recovery
concept for mental illness. The data is presented in a
"ready-to-use" manner, utilizing algorithms, diagrams, tables, and
figures to convey helpful information to clinicians in order to
improve all aspects of psychiatric patient adherence.
Hot Melt Extrusion can be simply defined as the process of forming
a new material by forcing it through an orifice or die under
controlled conditions, such as temperature, mixing, feed-rate and
pressure. Hot Melt Extrusion is the process of embedding drug in a
polymeric carrier. Hot Melt Extrusion is the process of converting
a raw material into a product of uniform shape and density by
forcing it through a die under controlled conditions. In recent
years, interest in hot melt extrusion techniques for pharmaceutical
applications has grown significantly. Hot melt extrusion (HME) is
an established manufacturing process that has been used in the
plastics and food industry since the 1930s. It was first developed
in the early 20th century by the plastics industry as a means of
producing different shapes for a variety of industrial and domestic
applications.
The present study revealed that, majority of the respondents were
in favour of inclusion of sex education in schools. Thus, there is
a need to consider sex education essential for proper growth for a
balanced view point. The more we consider this taboo and hide
information, the more mystiques are built around it, and the more
alluring it gets. Though sex education alone cannot eradicate all
the crimes, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and other
adolescents' problems; but it could be one of the best initiatives
which may at least decrease the probability of problems faced by
the adolescents and the society in matters related to sex. Thus,
there is a need to contemplate on the matters concerning sex
education to build a better society. It is very rightly said that,
'Knowledge is Power' and in this high-risk day and age, children
need all the information they can get. Only by opening up the
discussion about sex and beginning to talk to children by catching
them young, we will be able to protect and help them to adopt right
attitude, values and healthy relationships.

Poloxamers are nonionic triblock copolymers composed of a central
hydrophobic chain of polyoxypropylene flanked by two hydrophilic
chains of polyoxyethylene. Now a day, Poloxamer are widely used in
different drug delivery systems due to its biodegradability, high
solubility and low toxicity. Poloxamers contain both hydrophilic
and hydrophobic part, so they are used widely as surfactant and
emulsifier in the formulation. Poloxamer are used in solid
dispersion as solubility enhancer. Pluronic grade has thermo
reversible gelation property, liquid at room temperature and
convert gel at body temperature, so it is used in the control
release formulation. Poloxamer are used for improve the stability
of Nanoparticle and liposome. Poloxamers are used in solid
suppositories for improve the dissolution of poorly soluble drugs
and decrease the rectal irritation compare to conventional polymer
like polyethylene glycol. Poloxamer are also used in the biological
preparation as stabilizer.
A mobile ad hoc network is a collection of wireless nodes that can
dynamically be set up anywhere and anytime without using any
pre-existing network infrastructure. Ad hoc networking can be
applied anywhere where, there is little or no communication
infrastructure or the existing infrastructure is expensive or
inconvenient to use. One of the motivation behind this activity is
the need felt by people to communicate with computers or device in
natural mode of communication in respect of diverse application.
The book is an attempt to present the advances in the networking
technology -both theory and practice. This book provides a
comprehensive reference material for students, instructors,
researchers, engineers, and other professionals in building their
understanding of ad hoc and ubiquitous computing. Each chapter on a
particular topic is written in a tutorial manner and the chapters
are organized so that the topics covered are easy to understand.
The thousands of chemicals besides the soot of the cigarette
inhaled for decades keep on acting on the various tissues and body
systems causing changes in them ultimately leading to the
irreparable damages system to function normally. Smoking can induce
alteration in drug absorption, metabolism, degeneration,
detoxification and drug excretion either in original form or in
altered simple compound form. Therefore our aim was to investigate
the effect of cigarette smoke on the pharmacokinetic profile of
ofloxacin by using rabbits as experimental model. The tested group
animals were exposed to cigarette smoke twice daily for 60 days.
Ofloxacin was administered orally and samples of blood plasma were
collected from each animal at different time intervals. Ofloxacin
concentration in plasma samples is determined by microbiological
assay using agar well diffusion method. Staphylococcus aureus was
used as test organism. During the study on the drug interaction of
cigarette smoke with ofloxacin, the pharmacokinetic parameters of
ofloxacin such as AUC, Cmax, Tmax, t1/2, Vd and CL were altered due
to the effect of cigarette smoke.
We are at the dawn of something spectacular: cutting-edge
discoveries are rewriting the boundaries between modern science and
ancient spirituality. There is a clear convergence that
demonstrates spiritual abilities and the divine are Real. Ancient
teachers and yogis millennia ago taught us the art of living in the
present moment; connecting with our higher selves; feeling the
interconnectedness of the whole universe; bonding with all people;
and developing stillness and mindfulness to heal our body and
spirit. Today, all these skills have proven beneficial to millions
of people. Moreover, ancient philosophical parallels with modern
discoveries in consciousness studies, quantum non-locality, and
inseparability have been known since the seventies. Now, after two
decades of pioneering discoveries in science, breathtaking and
observable parallels with our world and universe are also emerging.
This makes sense. If the ancients genuinely experienced the
philosophy, they should also have known our world and universe,
too. And here's the amazing evidence. An extraordinary new porthole
into their ancient beliefs has opened. They are not generalized,
stretched, or speculative. They are specific and objective. Anyone
- theist, agnostic, skeptic, and atheist - all can easily verify.
And you don't require a background in science to do so. The
findings are meticulous and many have appeared in mainstream,
peer-reviewed scientific journals. Also remarkable, new studies
reveal a possible ancient connection between Yoga and the Bible.
Genesis can be seen in a whole new light. Patel demonstrates how it
leads to a magnificent, 100 percent solution to each of its Seven
Days and Noah's Flood. The harmonious findings resolve many major
criticisms of spiritual beliefs. They also nurture peace and mutual
respect between science and the world's faiths. These amazing
discoveries are yet more evidence that there is a path to harmony.
A path to one. Consciousness is universal. Everything is
intertwined. The Divine is Real. www.SanjayCPatel.com Reviews:

Immunomodulation using medicinal plants can provide an alternative
to conventional chemotherapy for a variety of diseases especially
when host defense mechanism has to be acquired under the conditions
of impaired immune responsiveness. The objective of the present
study was to investigate the immunomodulatory potential of aqueous
extract of Trapa bispinosa (TBAE) in immunodeficient experimental
animals by studying humoral immunity response, delayed type
hypersensitivity reaction, macrophase phagocytosis and percent
change in neutrophil counts. Further to evaluate antistress
activity, wistar rats were subjected to forced swimming endurance
test and chronic cold restraint stress. The result of present study
suggests that ethanolic fraction of TBAE could stimulate the
cellular and humoral response in animals. The anti-stress and
adaptogenic activity exhibited by its ethanol fraction in the study
further suggests that its ethanolic fraction may useful in the
treatment of several disorders caused by stress by its
immunostimulating and immunomodulating properties and also
enhancing the homeostasis mechanism.
India has the second largest tribal population in the world. This
Scheduled Tribes (STs) population is 8.08% of the total population
of India and about 10% of all rural people. The study dealt with
the participation of tribals of the Dangs in elementary school
activities. The study revealed that committees were constituted,
agendas made, grants utilized and meetings were conducted but
neither functionaries nor the beneficiaries were aware with the
basic philosophy behind the community participation and its role in
elementary education. The study revealed that wherever the head
masters and teachers were committed, visionary, working with
positive attitude and dedicated, they could mobilize the staff and
tribal community leading to quality education. Wherever the
functionaries and beneficiaries were active and participated in
school activities, enhanced the status of education in the school.
Thus, on the basis of the study it can be concluded that a lot
needs to be done for involvement of tribals, both functionaries and
beneficiaries in the elementary school activities.
