This textbook utilizes the ideas and concepts that made the
international edition a valued companion to economics students and
lecturers the world over, but tailors its language and
illustrations to better suit its Arab readers. Regional case
studies, photographs and examples bring the principles and concepts
of economics to life for Arab learners, who are encouraged to apply
the information and data contained in Economics to their own
environment and experiences.
Religious studies and research has gained a lot of interest and
considerable attention from researchers, policy makers, and
practitioners during the last few years. Though interest has
increased, religious tourism is vastly underrepresented in modern
research and not much is known on the subject's presence in most
countries. Global Perspectives on Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
provides emerging research on religious tourism, the cultural
impact of religion, and religiosity's impact on new market
products. Highlighting the prevalence of religiosity, readers will
learn tourism's impact on the world economy and the growing
research in religious tourism, this book is an important resource
for academic societies, entrepreneurs, policy makers, researchers,
and educators.
This book investigates the interplay between media, politics,
religion, and culture in shaping Arabs' quest for more stable and
democratic governance models in the aftermath of the "Arab Spring"
uprisings. It focuses on online mediated public debates,
specifically user comments on online Arab news sites, and their
potential to re-engage citizens in politics. Contributors
systematically explore and critique these online communities and
spaces in the context of the Arab uprisings, with case studies,
largely centered on Egypt, covering micro-bloggers, Islamic
discourse online, Libyan nationalism on Facebook, and a
computational assessment of online engagement, among other topics.

to explain the phenomenal, yet under-researched relationship
between terrorists and media professionals in which acts of
terrorism and media coverage are exchanged, influenced, and fueled
by one another. Exchanging Terrorism Oxygen for Media Airwaves: The
Age of Terroredia provides a timely and thorough discussion on a
wide range of issues surrounding terrorism in relation to both
traditional and new media. Comprised of insights and research from
leading experts in the fields of terrorism and media studies, this
publication presents various topics relating to Terroredia:
understanding of terrorism and the role of the media, terrorism
manifestations and media representations of terrorism, types of
terrorism and media stereotypes of terrorism, terrorism tactics and
media strategies, the war on terrorism, the function of terrorism
and the employment of the media, new terrorism and new media,
contemporary cases of terrorist-media interactions, the rationality
behind terrorism and counterterrorism, as well as the
responsibility of the media. This publication is of interest to
government officials, media professionals, researchers, and
upper-level students interested in learning more about the complex
relationship between terrorism and the media.
As the Middle East continues to grow as a predominant force within
the international marketplace, research into Islamic practices and
culture is necessary to promote business success in the region.

This book discusses dynamic modeling, simulation, and control
strategies for Photovoltaic (PV) stand-alone systems during
variation of environmental conditions. Moreover, the effectiveness
of the implemented Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques
and the employed control strategy are evaluated during variations
of solar irradiance and cell temperature. The simulation results
are based on the reliability of the MPPT techniques applied in
extracting the maximum power from the PV system during the rapid
variation of the environmental conditions. The authors review two
MPPT techniques implemented in PV systems, namely the perturb and
observe (P&O) MPPT Technique and the Incremental Conductance
(InCond) MPPT technique. These two MPPT techniques were simulated
by the MATLAB/Simulink and the results response of the PV array
from voltage, current, and power are compared to the effect of
solar irradiation and temperature change.
Marian Eide argues that the central concern of James Joyce's writing was the creation of a literary ethic. Eide examines Joyce's ethical preoccupations throughout his work, particularly the tension between his commitment as an artist and his social obligations as a father and citizen during a tumultuous period of European history. This is the first study devoted to Joyce's ethical philosophy as it emerges in his writing.
While e-marketing has emerged as an aid in allowing businesses to
reach a broader audience, evolutions in computer science and
technology have made its comprehension a bit more complex.

While high quality library and information services continue to
thrive and strengthen economic and social development, much of the
knowledge that exists on user's needs and behaviours is
fundamentally based on the results of users in English-speaking,
western developed countries. Information Access and Library User
Needs in Developing Countries highlights the struggles that
developing countries face in terms of information gaps and
information-seeking user behaviour. The publication highlights ways
in which users in developing countries can benefit from properly
implementing LIS services. Researchers, academics, and
practitioners interested in the design and delivery of information
services will benefit from this collection of research.

transition. Providing an interdisciplinary approach to
interconnections across regional and communal boundaries, this
volume situates itself at the intersection of political science,
cultural studies, media and film studies, and Middle Eastern
studies, while offering some key critical revisions to dominant
approaches in social and political theory. Through the unique
contributions of each of its authors, this book will offer a
much-needed addition to the study of Middle East politics and the
Arab Spring. Moreover, although its specific focus is on the Arab

This edited volume focuses on different views of happiness and
well-being, considering constructs like meaning and spirituality in
addition to the more standard constructs of positive emotion and
life satisfaction. A premise of the volume is that being happy
consists of more than having the right things happen to us; it also
depends on how we interpret those events as well as what we are
trying to achieve. Such considerations suggest that
cognitive-emotional factors should play a fairly pronounced role in
how happy we are. The present volume pursues these themes in the
context of 25 chapters organized into 5 sections. The first section
centers on cognitive variables such as attention and executive
function, in addition to mindfulness. The second section considers
important sources of positive cognition such as savoring and
optimism and the third section focuses on self-regulatory
contributions to well-being. Finally, social processes are covered
in a fourth section and meaning-related processes are covered in
the fifth. What results is a rich and diverse volume centering on
the ways in which our minds can help or hinder our aspirations for
happiness.
In his lifetime, Ibn-Daqiq wrote many books but this has become his
most popular. In it he comments on the forty hadiths compiled by
Yahya Al-Nawawi and known as the Nawawi Forty Hadiths. His
commentary has become so popular that it is virtually impossible
for any scholar to write a serious book about the forty hadiths
without quoting Ibn-Daqiq. This is the only book that combines the
sagacity of Ibn-Daqiq and the vast knowledge of Al-Nawawi. The book
was written centuries ago but its benefits are everlasting. The
book is indispensible for anyone who wants to study Islam
thoroughly and laconically from the masters themselves. We
translated from Arabic Ibn-Daqiq's commentary in its entirety. We
listed the text of each hadith first and followed it by the
commentary. We added a detailed table of contents and thorough
explanatory notes. A short introduction to the science of hadith by
the translators is also included.
When Barack Obama was elected in 2008, his foreign policy was at
first seen to be the antithesis of that of his predecessor, George
W. Bush. Eid Mohamed highlights how in the wake of this change of
US administration, Arab media, literature and cinema began to
assert the value of America as a potential source of 'change' while
attempting to renegotiate the Arab world's position in the
international system. Arab cultural representation of the United
States has variously changed and developed since 9/11, and again in
the wake of the protests in 2011 and the ensuing political turmoil
in Egypt, Libya, Yemen, and of course, Syria. Taking this into
account, Mohamed offers an examination of the ways in which
stereotypes of America are both presented and challenged through
cinema, fiction and the wider media and intellectual production.
Rather than seeing this process as one where the Middle East reacts
to and attempts to negotiate with western modernity, Mohamed
instead highlights the significant interplay of religion, pop
culture and politics and the role they play in shaping the complex
relation between America and the nations of the Middle East.
Human resources management (HRM) has evolved in the last few years
as a result of such factors as outsourcing, work-life balance
issues, globalization, increasing proportion of older workers,
generational differences, etc. As such, it is imperative to revisit
past views and perspectives on methods and practices in HRM in
order to ensure that best procedures are being utilized. Cases on
Critical Practices for Modern and Future Human Resources Management
offers teaching cases from the corporate, public, and educational
sectors that present critical reviews of different aspects of HRM,
its origin, role and responsibilities, functions, and the future of
HRM in the context of changing patterns of work, society, and the
world. It functions as a resource that will spur future HR
personnel to become more ethically conscious managers and citizens.
Highlighting important topics that include employee wellbeing,
recruitment, and retention, this book is ideal for human resources
managers, organization development consultants, small and medium
enterprises, non-profit organizations, professionals, academicians,
researchers, and students

Access programme and is available on www.bloomsburycollections.com.
The so-called Arab Spring challenged conventional wisdom and
certainties about the Arab world where its effects continue to be
felt as well as in the diaspora. This book provides an original
contribution to current social and cultural theory on Arab social
movements by giving a fuller historical and critical treatment of
contemporary artistic and cultural production from the region and
beyond. Thematically structured and covering culture, media,
politics, and literary studies, the book uses a range of
theoretical material that engages readers in three key ways. First,
it adopts a critical standpoint with respect to the term "Arab
Spring," recognizing the multiple interpretations and varied
geographical, historical, and political realities of the term.
Second, its focus on carefully selected case studies - namely,
Egypt, Tunis, Syria, and Yemen - adds depth to analysis of the
cultural, literary and artistic dimensions that operate fluidly
across the Arab world. Third, it presents a methodological case
study for the growing community of researchers involved in
interdisciplinary education. Together, the contributors to the book
show how the interplay of politics, culture, and media across
varied locations has and continues to shape emergent Arab social
forms and a region on the cusp of historical and cultural change.
Addressing the specific contexts of communal leadership,
educational policy, inter-communal relations, legal reform, media
production, public discourse, public opinion, and responses to
government policy, this volume examines Western-Muslim relations
and makes proposals for enhancing Self-Other interaction to improve
societal harmony.
Available Open Access under CC-BY-NC licence. This book is about
being disabled and being poor and the social, cultural and
political processes that link these two aspects of living.
Environmental barriers, limited access to services and
discriminatory attitudes and practice are among key elements that
drive disabled people into poverty and keep them there. 'Disability
and poverty' explores the lived realities of people with
disabilities from across the developing world and examines how the
coping strategies of individuals and families emerge in different
contexts.
The twenty-first century exploded into the global imagination with
unforgettable scenes of death and destruction. An apocalyptic
'clash of civilizations' seemed to be waged between two old foes -
'the West' and 'Islam.' However, the decade-long and ruinous 'war
on terror' has prompted re-assessments of the militaristic approach
to Western-Muslim relations. A growing number of academics,
policymakers, religious leaders, journalists, and activists view
the struggles as resulting from a 'clash of ignorance.'
Re-imagining the Other examines the ways in which knowledge is
manipulated by dominant Western and Muslim discourses. Authors from
several disciplines study how the two societies have constructed
images of each other in historical and contemporary times. The
complexities and subtleties of their mutually productive
relationship are overshadowed by portrayals of unremitting clash,
thus serving as encouragement for the promotion of war and
terrorism. The book proposes specific approaches to re-imagine the
Other in order to mitigate Western-Muslim conflict.
