Volume 96 of Contemporary Studies in Economic and Financial
Analysis provides further insights to postcrisis developments in
the global economic and financial environment. Risk Management Post
Financial Crisis: A Period of Monetary Easing includes papers from
leading authors from central banks, worldrenowned universities and
international organisations. Topics and issues addressed by this
volume include: an overview of advances in risk management in the
post financial crisis environment, the impact that complexity
present in financial returns now plays in measuring reporting and
risk, the role that sentiment and herding plays in distorting
prices in financial markets, the procyclical impact of Basel III
including effects on capital requirements and bank balance sheets,
central bank monetary policies and bank liquidity in a world
without quantitative easing, credit risk assessment and bank
lending, and changes in the structure of international financial
markets, including the rise and impact of financial markets in
China and those financial products denominated in RMB.
This edited volume will highlight recent research in derivatives
modelling and markets in a post-crisis world across a number of
dimensions or themes. The book addresses the following main areas:
derivatives models and pricing, model application and performance
backtesting, new products and market features. Particular themes
encompass: - continuous and discrete time modeling, - statistical
arbitrage models, - arbitrage-free pricing, risk-neutral implied
densities, - equilibrium pricing approaches (including e.g.
co-integration), - applications of methods in computational
statistics including simulation, - computationally intense
techniques for pricing, estimation and backtesting, - complex
derivative products, - credit and counterparty risk, - innovative
market and product structures.
Catch up with current theories on a major public health menace
Adolescent smoking has increasingly become a concern as a public
health issue, yet the theoretical and empirical literature in the
area remains skimpy. Nicotine Addiction Among Adolescents furnishes
researchers and medical professionals with a comprehensive overview
of current theories and statistics. Moreover, it offers fresh
empirical research as well as suggestions for promising avenues of
investigation. The first half of Nicotine Addiction Among
Adolescents provides a solid conceptual and practical context for
studying adolescent nicotine addiction, drawing on the most
advanced scholarly studies of why teenagers start smoking and the
process of addiction. The second half evaluates nicotine
replacement therapy, smoking interventions among substance-abusing
adolescents, and smoking among teenage girls. Nicotine Addiction
Among Adolescents addresses all phases of adolescent tobacco use.
This valuable guide details: the pharmacological, psychological,
and developmental factors that influence teen smoking behavior the
hidden connection between depression, gender, and cigarettes the
grounds for the debate over whether most teens become addicted to
nicotine emerging practices and methods to help adolescents stop
smoking links between smoking and other kinds of substance abuse
ways to improve prevention and intervention programs unanswered
questions about teenage smoking that demand further
researchNicotine Addiction Among Adolescents recognizes the need
for developmentally sensitive approaches for conceptualizing and
treating nicotine addiction and offers you thought-provoking
strategies and models that will spark future research.
During the years 1933 to 1939, a pro-Nazi movement developed in
Canada. With the support of the German National Socialist Party,
Canadian pro-Nazi institutions were formed: clubs, rallies,
schools, and newspapers. The movement ended in failure. The author
analyzes the reasons for the formation and decline of the National
Socialist Party in Canada, describing in the process the general
characteristics of the German community in Canada, the extent of
Nazi activity in this country, and the influence of the Canadian
environment on the movement. The book, well researched and
carefully documented, is an original contribution to Canadian
history of the 1930s.
The study of stable groups connects model theory, algebraic geometry and group theory. It analyzes groups that possess a certain general dependence relation and tries to derive structural properties from this. These may be group-theoretic (nilpotency or solubility of a given group), algebro-geometric (identification of a group as an algebraic group), or model-theoretic (description of the definable sets). In this book, the general theory of stable groups is developed from the beginning (including a chapter on preliminaries in group theory and model theory), concentrating on the model- and group-theoretic aspects. It brings together the various extensions of the original finite rank theory under a unified perspective and provides a coherent exposition of the current knowledge in the field.
dargestellt.
Some of the current concepts used in transgenic research, an
increasingly important tool to study the regulation and function of
genes, are illustrated in this book. With these techniques, animal
models can be used to study human diseases; this opens up new
possibilities in both applied and basic research. Specifically, the
ability to introduce genes into the germline of mice and the
successful expression of the inserted gene within an organism
provide new insights and opportunities for biomedical research. The
discussion here shows how a detailed analysis of the underlying
molecular mechanisms will provide new insights into the genetic
origin of certain diseases and will lead to a better understanding
of normal and abnormal physiological processes.
