work on Wittgenstein's masterpiece for the foreseeable future
Today, educators are looking for ways to utilize classroom time
more effectively. Many thoughtful and forward-looking educators
have reorganized the school calendar from the traditional
nine-month model to one which is more balanced, and they have
experienced the effects of calendar modification in the classroom,
school, district, and community. Balancing the School Calendar is a
compilation of perspectives and research reports from those who
have experienced the urgent necessity of reorganizing time to
effectuate better learning situations for students. Chapter authors
have implemented, studied, or contemplated school calendar change
and the results of the change.
What is the proper place of the Bible in Black Churches?
Baker-Fletcher explores the Bible as a uniquely authoritative text
within the context of Black church worship and service to the
world. He analyzes the Bible's central role in three forms of
witness: translation, proclamation, and empowerment. Trusting that
the Bible is authentically "God's Word" that uses human language,
Baker-Fletcher affirms the uniqueness of the Bible in the church's
multiple tasks of preaching, teaching, and prophetic ministries.
Finally, finding proverbial wisdom in rap music, the book concludes
with a case study of the book of Romans.

This unique book demonstrates the current status, and future
potential, of millimetre wavelength (MMW) spectrometry as a means
of quantitative analysis of gaseous mixtures. After outlining the
spectroscopic theory required, the authors then go on to discuss
the components of an MMW cavity spectrometer, concentrating on
compact, automatic, low-cost instruments. Other topics covered
include solid state MMW sources with both cryogenically cooled and
room temperature detectors. Post-detector signal processing,
smoothing, filtering and spectral profile fitting are also
discussed. The book concludes with a look at the future of the
technique, in areas such as millimetre wave-over-fibre technology.
Quantitative Millimetre Wavelength Spectrometry will be welcomed by
practitioners in both industry and academia.

Inspired by the research and theory of Robert Freed Bales
(Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Harvard University), this
collection of research and applications using SYMLOG, a system for
the multi-level observation of groups, provides the most recent
examples of analyzing aspects of social interaction systems. The
collection shows the relationship of SYMLOG to other theoretical
models, gives examples of international research, includes
applications in health, education, religion, and policy analysis,
and illustrates problems and solutions regarding the validity and
reliability of the method. The editors provide the widest selection
of articles on SYMLOG, covering theory, research, and applications
in organizational development and other fields.
Another Muppet adventure with Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Rizzo,
Fozzy and Animal. The Muppets must go to the North Pole to
personally deliver three letters to Santa after they accidentally
stop them from being posted. Trying to reach Santa before he sets
out on Christmas Eve to deliver presents, the hapless Muppets face
a whole host of obstacles and problems. Whoopi Goldberg, Uma
Thurman, Jane Krakowski and Tony Sirico also star.
Mike the Tiger-the only live tiger mascot in the United States-is
an iconic presence on LSU's campus. From his tiger sanctuary next
to Tiger Stadium, he draws a steady stream of fans, adults and
children alike. In this new book about LSU's favorite tiger, Mike's
former veterinarian David G. Baker reflects on his decades of
caring for three of the live mascots, beginning with Mike V in
1996. Baker gives fascinating behind-the-scenes glimpses of the
tigers as he recounts episodes such as Mike VI's cancer diagnosis,
treatment, and death, and the search for Mike VII. He gives details
about the tiger's daily care and routine, provides answers to
commonly asked questions about the mascot program, and discusses
Mike's popular social media presence. He also delves into new
traditions, such as the creation of "meat art" for Mike to devour
before home football games and the overnight holding of graduation
rings in the night house with Mike. In addition to Baker's own
text, Mike: The Tigers of LSU includes remembrances from many of
the tiger's veterinary student caretakers over the years, who
reveal how caring for Mike the Tiger impacted their lives. Loaded
with more than one hundred new and historical photos, Mike is sure
to please the most avid fans of LSU's mascot.
Fiber optics is a transmission technique that uses electrical
signals to modulate a light source and thereby produce an optical
signal proportional to the electrical signal. These optical signals
contain information that is transmitted via a glass waveguide to a
light-sensitive receiver. Fiber optics has a distinct advantage
over copper networks for some applications. The objective of this
book is to explore monomode, as opposed to multimode, applications
of fiber optics to local area networks (LANs), which have become a
rather important aspect of this technology because of the
ever-increasing growth of LANs. Monomode fiber optics requires the
use of coherent light sources such as laser diodes, YAGs, and HeNe
lasers, to name just a few. It has some distinct advantages over
multimode that this text will investigate in a cursory manner. (The
author's previous book on multimode fiber optics, Fiber Optic
Design and Applications, published by Reston, would be helpful but
not necessary to aug ment this text.) Monomode (or single-mode)
fiber optics is the present direction of the state of-the-art
because of its superior performance. Since a few problems existed
that limited the growth of monomode technology at the time this
book was being written, several sections of the text will be
devoted to examining the shortcom ings as well as the performance
advantages of this technology."
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second
International Workshop on Memory Management, IWMM '95, held in
Kinross, Scotland, in September 1995. It contains 17 full revised
papers on all current aspects of memory management; among the
topics addressed are garbage collection for parallel, real-time,
and distributed memory systems, memory management of distributed
and of persistent objects, programming language aspects,
hardware-assisted garbage collection, and open-network garbage
collection.
In addition, the book presents the invited paper "Dynamic Storage
Allocation: A Survey and Review" by a team of four authors from the
University of Texas at Austin, which surveys the literature on
allocators between 1961 and 1995.
Physicians who choose to serve in public-sector mental healthcare
settings and physicians-in-training assigned to public-sector
mental health clinics may not be fully prepared for the many roles
of the public and community psychiatrist. Public and Community
Psychiatry is a concise guide for the resident and early-career
psychiatrist called upon to serve in the roles of public-sector
clinician, team member, advocate, administrator, and academician.
Each chapter includes a concise description of these various roles
and responsibilities and offers engaging examples of the public
psychiatrist at work, as well as case-based problems typical of
those faced by the public psychiatrist. Each chapter also features
works of art and literature, usually from the public domain, in
order to incorporate the core strengths of medical humanities into
the dialogue of public-sector mental healthcare. This book aims to
provide a level of support to psychiatrists that fosters their
desire, individually and collectively, to serve the poor and the
marginalized with grit and determination, and to broadly consider
their potential to improve not only their patients' well-being, but
also these patients' incorporation into their respective
communities.
