As the world's resources are running out, sustainability issues
will drive large strategy shifts for many organizations in the near
future. Businesses need to explore how profit and value can be
generated from sustainable innovations in their commercial
offerings. This is both an ethical and an essential strategy in a
global economy still reliant on increasingly limited resources.
Sustainable Innovation Strategy is a thought-provoking and timely
book which examines the links between sustainable development,
innovation strategy and the business model. Through insightful case
studies from mature and developing markets, the authors show how
sustainability needs to be at the core of every organization's
strategy and innovation. They reveal the three ways in which
sustainable strategies can be incorporated into business models -
eco-efficiency, circularity and functional economy.
Rigorous and practical, this book shows how other organizations
have successfully made the transition from resource reliant to
generating profit and value through sustainable models. From the
innovative strides being taken in the electric car industry in
Europe to the management of agricultural waste in Brazil for profit
and clean energy, they show how sustainable business models can add
value to an organization.
This volume details standard techniques for the characterization of
urothelial carcinoma as well as methods to investigate mechanisms
of carcinogenesis. Chapters guide readers on cellular and animal
models for urothelial carcinoma and related diseases, molecular
analyses from body fluids, and new approaches to therapy. Written
in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series
format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics,
lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step,
readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on
troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and
practical, Urothelial Carcinoma: Methods and Protocols hopes that
the techniques described in this volume will contribute to the
current upturn in research on urothelial carcinoma and to the
application of its results in clinical practice.
Luxury is booming. The rise of emerging-market luxury brands and
the digital revolution are reshaping the industry, but what's next
and what trends will the future bring?
The rise of emerging market luxury brands, digital and online
innovations, and growth in consumption globally has opened the
doors for seasoned luxury houses and new players to expand their
horizons. This book charts the trends that are shaping the luxury
industry, particularly the rise of the luxury industry in Asia and
emerging markets.
Significant progress has been made in recent years in developing
silicon nitride ceramics. The advances that have been achieved are
mainly based on an increasing understanding of processing and
microstructure-properties relationships. New analytical methods and
high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) coupled
with extensive phase equilibria studies have provided new insights
into the grain boundary region and offer the possibility to tailor
the microstructure for specific applications. Because of the
anticipated break-through in industrial applications there are
still considerablt; research activities at industrial laboratories
as well as other research centres. This volume presents the
contributions to the international workshop "Tailoring ofHigh-
Temperature Properties of Si3N4-Ceramics" with 60 participants from
12 countries held on 6th - 9th October 1993 at SchloB Ringberg in
Germany, the conference site of the Max- Planck-Society.
Additionally, it contains all invited papers of the International
Conference "Silicon Nitride 93" held before the workshop on 4th -
6th October 1993 in Stuttgart/Germany. The book covers all recent
research activities on silicon nitride ceramics and gives an
overview with respect to recent developments.

Business School this exciting new book offers a new perspective
that challenges the established rules of the luxury and fashion
industry. The authors and contributors examine the evolution of
luxury strategy and how the luxury industry is being redefined in
the twenty-first century.
Global governance is fast becoming a ubiquitous phrase, succeeding
globalization as the latest buzz term. But exactly what does it
mean? For many scholars and policymakers the term captures
important aspects of world politics. This unique volume delivers
and compares the key perspectives of the leading thinkers in the
area, equipping the reader with an excellent understanding of the
debate now defining and mapping the future of this term. This
comparative approach is underpinned by a lucid theoretical
framework which guides the reader towards building a clear sense of
the debate and its complexities. A wide range of empirical issues
are covered, including those of Security, International Political
Economy, Environment, Human Rights, Social Movements and
Regulation. Including theorists of social constructivism, liberal
imperialism and realism, this is an essential book for students and
scholars which stimulates discussion and presents a fully rounded
picture of global governance.
It is increasingly clear that the world of climate politics is no
longer confined to the activities of national governments and
international negotiations. Critical to this transformation of the
politics of climate change has been the emergence of new forms of
transnational governance that cut across traditional state-based
jurisdictions and operate across public and private divides. This
book provides the first comprehensive, cutting-edge account of the
world of transnational climate change governance. Co-authored by a
team of the world's leading experts in the field and based on a
survey of sixty case studies, the book traces the emergence, nature
and consequences of this phenomenon, and assesses the implications
for the field of global environmental politics. It will prove
invaluable for researchers, graduate students and policy makers in
climate change, political science, international relations, human
geography, sociology and ecological economics.

The neuroendocrine control of reproduction and development of
inver- tebrates has a long tradition as an important area of
research in France. The reader of this volume is certainly familiar
with the significant con- tributions to this field made by such
outstanding scientific personalities as J ean-J acques Bounhiol,
Jean Panouse, Bernard Possompes, Pierre and Line Joly, Helene
Charniaux-Cotton,Maurice Durchon, Manfred Gabe, Guy Echalier, Marie
Raabe, and others. It is therefore not surprising that the Centre
National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) sponsored, in 1975 and
1983, two major inter- national meetings devoted to this subject.
The organizers of the 1975 meeting, which was held in Lille,
decided to concentrate on the bio- synthesis, metabolism, and mode
of action of the invertebrate hor- mones. To some extent,
Professors Durchon and J oly wanted to convey the message that they
felt that the period of classical invertebrate endo- crinology had
come to an end and that traditional approaches were be- ing
replaced by biochemical analyses. How right they were is
illustrated by the present volume. Today biochemistry, molecular
biology, and analytical chemistry are tools of the invertebrate
endocrinologist, who now starts his morning work by homogenizing
his worm, mollusc, insect ...and by extracting DNA, steroids, or
peptides.

The global response to climate change has reached a critical
juncture. Since the 1992 signing of the United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change, the nations of the world have
attempted to address climate change through large-scale
multilateral treaty-making. These efforts have been heroic, but
disappointing. As evidence for the quickening pace of climate
change mounts, the treaty-making process has sputtered, and many
are now skeptical about the prospect of an effective global
response. Yet global treaty-making is not the only way that climate
change can be addressed or, indeed, is being addressed.
In the last decade myriad initiatives have emerged across the globe
independently from, or only loosely connected to, the "official"
UN-sponsored negotiations and treaties. In the face of stalemate in
the formal negotiations, the world is experimenting with alternate
means of responding to climate change. Climate Governance at the
Crossroads chronicles these innovations--how cities, provinces and
states, citizen groups, and corporations around the globe are
addressing the causes and symptoms of global warming. The center of
gravity in the global response to climate change is shifting from
the multilateral treaty-making process to the diverse activities
found beyond the negotiating halls. These innovations are pushing
the envelope of climate action and demonstrating what is possible,
and they provide hope that the world will respond effectively to
the climate crisis.
In introducing climate governance "experiments" and examining the
development and functioning of this new world of climate
policy-making, this book provides an exciting new perspective on
the politics of climate change and the means to understand and
influence how the global response to climate change will unfold in
the coming years.
This volume consists of a long monographic paper by J.
Hoffmann-Jorgensen and a number of shorter research papers and
survey articles covering different aspects of functional analysis
and its application to probability theory and differential
equations.
