Basic NEC with Broadcast Applications (Hardcover): J.L. Smith Basic NEC with Broadcast Applications (Hardcover)
J.L. Smith
R3,994 Discovery Miles 39 940 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

"Basic NEC with Broadcast Applications" addresses computer modeling of MF directional broadcast antennas and illustrates the assets and liabilities of the Numerical Electromagnetic Code (NEC). The book's "how to" approach reveals the fundamentals of NEC operation, teaches broadcast applications and shows the reader how to use NEC-2 to: model non-radiating networks, verify calculations, detune unused towers, design top-loaded and skirted antennas, minimize coding by moving and duplicating structures, and much more! Complete with CD, the book is an invaluable toolkit with software necessary for the design and analysis of broadcast antenna arrays.
*Learn to use the method of moments computer programs to design and analyze MF directional antennas
*CD includes a modified version of NEC-2, programs for geometry viewing and pattern plotting, as well as author-written post processing programs to convert target field ratios to base drive voltages and to verify the integrity of the NEC-2 analysis
*Concepts taught in this book apply to analysis generated by NEC-2, NEC-4, MININEC and other method of moments computer programs

What can science teachers do to elevate interest in their classes and make learning more exciting and fun? This is an age-old question that educators have been grappling with forever. It is commonly assumed and studies have verified that students learn more if they are actively involved in the learning experience. Anything the teacher can do to peak interest in a subject pays rich rewards. It is common sense that if a student is enjoying a learning experience, that student will put more effort into the experience. J. L. Smith taught high school and college physics for thirty-five years. In that time he developed a teaching style that that achieved great success. Anecdotal comments from his former students express their positive attitudes towards his physics classes. One major ingredient in Mr. Smith's approach to teaching physics was his emphasis on demonstrations that were thought-provoking, awesome and right-down fun. If a teacher can get the student's attention and stroke the thinking process, success will soon follow. In this offering J. L. Smith describes fifty demonstrations that he has used over the years in his physics classes. Though designed for the physics classroom, Mr. Smith's attitude and approach to the demonstrations could be extended to many disciplines of education. His techniques developed in the physics classroom will work in many other settings. J. L. Smith is also author of the stand-alone science fiction novel, Adam. His understanding in the field of physics is obvious. It is hoped that this offering will make the teaching of physics specifically, and science in general, more student-friendly and quite simply, fun.

NO KNOWN ASTEROID AT THESE COORDINATES IN THE CURRENT TIME FRAME. Sid and Patty Wilson jerked to attention as they looked at the monitor. Had they done it? Had they discovered a new Asteroid? As it turned out the answer was no. No it was not an asteroid. It was not a comet. It was like nothing that any human had seen since the beginning of history. It would prove to be a cosmic visitor that would change everything for the people of the earth. So begins story of Adam. Sid and Patty Wilson were making a routine scan of the heavens in their Nevada observatory in preparation for the upcoming Martian project. They were scheduled to leave for Mars in two years to set up a permanent colony. This night all was going well when suddenly they detected something very unusual. Their equipment had found an unknown object beyond the orbit of Saturn. Originally thinking it was an asteroid or comet buzzing toward the sun, they soon waded into a mystery that would have profound consequences for all the people on earth. The body was traveling fast, very fast. In fact it was moving fast enough that once it swung past the sun it would leave the solar system. What's more this body could not have originated in the solar system. This was no comet or asteroid. It was large, very large. And the most chilling thing about it was that it was heading towards earth. What was it? Was there danger for the people of earth? What should the response of earth do to prepare for it? This is a story that describes a cosmic visitor that changed everything. Adam is the work of a new novelist, physics educator J L Smith. It is a stand-alone novel that seeks to be true to the laws of science.

On an exciting but fateful day a letter appeared in Clara and Richard McCann's mailbox, no stamp no return address. Upon opening this envelope Clara discovered a nicely typed letter, and a check for a large amount of money, also in the envelope was a map to a destination.

After Clara and Richard retired from their busy jobs in the medical fi eld they found retirement to be boring so without a lot if discussion they went on this adventure. One of the destinations took them to St Louis where they happen to live next door to a woman with four little boys. After discovering this young woman's circumstances Clara jumped into her 'I can fi x this mode' and together they gave this struggling woman the love and attention she had longed for her entire life.

Th en after one-year in St Louis they got another letter just like the fi rst one to go to a diff erent city and state. Th is time they go to Indiana and fi nd themselves helping a beautiful Russian woman solve a murder mystery. Clara, Richard and handsome detective Brooks set a trap for the despicable men who were targeting elderly women; why were these men raping and murdering these women?

Richard and Clara ask this question frequently, who was sending them these letters? Richard seemed to think it had to be an angel, while Clara was not convinced she felt it had to be someone with a lot of money; a millionaire with the know how to make their pension checks come to their new address. The final question has always been why were they chosen to do this life changing work?
