Seit Langem sind die unterschiedlichen Relationen zwischen Sprache und Bild ein wichtiger Forschungsgegenstand der Linguistik, insbesondere der Textlinguistik und der Medienlinguistik. Dieser Band moechte die Diskussion in zweierlei Hinsicht weiter voranbringen: Er pladiert zum einen dafur, ein deutlich breiteres Spektrum von Anwendungssituationen in den Fokus zu nehmen, um die Vielfalt der Bild-Text-Relationen besser zu umreissen. Zum anderen moechte er dazu anregen, sich tiefergehend mit den Mechanismen und Prinzipien der Wechselwirkung zwischen Zeichenmodalitaten auseinanderzusetzen.
