Harmonic Analysis and Applications (Paperback): John J. Benedetto Harmonic Analysis and Applications (Paperback)
John J. Benedetto
R1,962 Discovery Miles 19 620 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Harmonic analysis plays an essential role in understanding a host of engineering, mathematical, and scientific ideas. In Harmonic Analysis and Applications, the analysis and synthesis of functions in terms of harmonics is presented in such a way as to demonstrate the vitality, power, elegance, usefulness, and the intricacy and simplicity of the subject. This book is about classical harmonic analysis - a textbook suitable for students, and an essay and general reference suitable for mathematicians, physicists, and others who use harmonic analysis. Throughout the book, material is provided for an upper level undergraduate course in harmonic analysis and some of its applications. In addition, the advanced material in Harmonic Analysis and Applications is well-suited for graduate courses. The course is outlined in Prologue I. This course material is excellent, not only for students, but also for scientists, mathematicians, and engineers as a general reference. Chapter 1 covers the Fourier analysis of integrable and square integrable (finite energy) functions on R. Chapter 2 of the text covers distribution theory, emphasizing the theory's useful vantage point for dealing with problems and general concepts from engineering, physics, and mathematics. Chapter 3 deals with Fourier series, including the Fourier analysis of finite and infinite sequences, as well as functions defined on finite intervals. The mathematical presentation, insightful perspectives, and numerous well-chosen examples and exercises in Harmonic Analysis and Applications make this book well worth having in your collection.

Wavelets - Mathematics and Applications (Hardcover): John J. Benedetto Wavelets - Mathematics and Applications (Hardcover)
John J. Benedetto
R5,543 Discovery Miles 55 430 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Wavelets is a carefully organized and edited collection of extended survey papers addressing key topics in the mathematical foundations and applications of wavelet theory. The first part of the book is devoted to the fundamentals of wavelet analysis. The construction of wavelet bases and the fast computation of the wavelet transform in both continuous and discrete settings is covered. The theory of frames, dilation equations, and local Fourier bases are also presented.
The second part of the book discusses applications of signal analysis, while the third part covers operator analysis and partial differential equations. Each chapter in these sections provides an up-to-date introduction to such topics as sampling theory, probability and statistics, compression, numerical analysis, turbulence, operator theory, and harmonic analysis.
The book is ideal for a general scientific and engineering audience, yet it is mathematically precise. It will be an especially useful reference for harmonic analysts, partial differential equation researchers, signal processing engineers, numerical analysts, fluids researchers, and applied mathematicians.

Journal of Fourier Analysis and Applications Special Issue (Paperback): John J. Benedetto Journal of Fourier Analysis and Applications Special Issue (Paperback)
John J. Benedetto
R5,385 Discovery Miles 53 850 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The Journal of Fourier Analysis and Applications is a journal of the mathematical sciences devoted to Fourier analysis and its applications. The subject of Fourier analysis has had a major impact on the development of mathematics, on the understanding of many engineering and scientific phenomena, and on the solution of some of the most important problems in mathematics and the sciences. At the end of June 1993, a large Conference in Harmonic Analysis was held at the University of Paris-Sud at Orsay to celebrate the prominent role played by Jean-Pierre Kahane and his numerous achievements in this field. The large variety of topics discussed in this meeting, ranging from classical Harmonic Analysis to Probability Theory, reflects the intense mathematical curiosity and the broad mathematical interest of Jean-Pierre Kahane. Indeed, all of them are connected to his work. The mornings were devoted to plenary addresses while up to four parallel sessions took place in the afternoons. Altogether, there were about eighty speakers. This wide range of subjects appears in these proceedings which include thirty six articles.

Sampling, Wavelets, and Tomography (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2004): John J. Benedetto, Ahmed I.... Sampling, Wavelets, and Tomography (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2004)
John J. Benedetto, Ahmed I. Zayed
R2,982 Discovery Miles 29 820 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Sampling, wavelets, and tomography are three active areas of contemporary mathematics sharing common roots that lie at the heart of harmonic and Fourier analysis. The advent of new techniques in mathematical analysis has strengthened their interdependence and led to some new and interesting results in the field. This state-of-the-art book not only presents new results in these research areas, but it also demonstrates the role of sampling in both wavelet theory and tomography. Specific topics covered include: * Robustness of Regular Sampling in Sobolev Algebras * Irregular and Semi-Irregular Weyl-Heisenberg Frames * Adaptive Irregular Sampling in Meshfree Flow Simulation * Sampling Theorems for Non-Bandlimited Signals * Polynomial Matrix Factorization, Multidimensional Filter Banks, and Wavelets * Generalized Frame Multiresolution Analysis of Abstract Hilbert Spaces * Sampling Theory and Parallel-Beam Tomography * Thin-Plate Spline Interpolation in Medical Imaging * Filtered Back-Projection Algorithms for Spiral Cone Computed Tomography Aimed at mathematicians, scientists, and engineers working in signal and image processing and medical imaging, the work is designed to be accessible to an audience with diverse mathematical backgrounds. Although the volume reflects the contributions of renowned mathematicians and engineers, each chapter has an expository introduction written for the non-specialist. One of the key features of the book is an introductory chapter stressing the interdependence of the three main areas covered. A comprehensive index completes the work. Contributors: J.J. Benedetto, N.K. Bose, P.G. Casazza, Y.C. Eldar, H.G. Feichtinger, A. Faridani, A. Iske, S. Jaffard, A. Katsevich, S. Lertrattanapanich, G. Lauritsch, B. Mair, M. Papadakis, P.P. Vaidyanathan, T. Integration and Modern Analysis (Hardcover, Edition.): John J. Benedetto, Wojciech Czaja Integration and Modern Analysis (Hardcover, Edition.)
John J. Benedetto, Wojciech Czaja
R4,096 Discovery Miles 40 960 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This textbook and treatise begins with classical real variables, develops the Lebesgue theory abstractly and for Euclidean space, and analyzes the structure of measures. The authors' vision of modern real analysis is seen in their fascinating historical commentary and perspectives with other fields. There are comprehensive treatments of the role of absolute continuity, the evolution of the Riesz representation theorem to Radon measures and distribution theory, weak convergence of measures and the Dieudonne-Grothendieck theorem, modern differentiation theory, fractals and self-similarity, rearrangements and maximal functions, and surface and Hausdorff measures. There are hundreds of illuminating exercises, and extensive, focused appendices on functional and Fourier analysis. The presentation is ideal for the classroom, self-study, or professional reference.
