President George W. Bush's first term has been among the most consequential and successful in modern times. Under his leadership, the United States is waging and winning the war against global terrorism. The United States and its coalition partners liberated more than 50 million people from two regimes of extraordinary brutality that had provided safe haven to terrorists. And we are promoting democracy in regions of the world that have never known it. These achievements are anchored in a set of core beliefs: America is a defender and promoter of freedom - and the advance of freedom brings peace. We must lead the world with strength and confidence. Religion should not be banned from the public square. Government should encourage ownership and opportunity, compassion and responsibility. The proper role of government is to create the environment in which small business owners and entrepreneurs will take risks and invest, hire workers and spark economic growth. Such times demand a leader of clear convictions and determination, hope and vision, integrity and the courage to act. These qualities are the hallmarks of the Bush Presidency. There is much that remains to be done - yet as this document illustrates, an enormous amount has already been accomplished. President George W. Bush put forward a historically ambitious agenda and restored dignity to the office he holds. He has provided steady leadership in the face of unprecedented challenges. The United States is safer and stronger, more resilient and better for his efforts.

As one of North America's most unique ecologies, the Great Plains have fostered symbiotic relationships between humans and animals for millennia. Among these, Indigenous bonds to beavers, bison, and horses have been the subject of numerous anthropological and scientific surveys. Beaver, Bison, Horse is an interdisciplinary account that centers on Indigenous knowledge and tradition. R. Grace Morgan's research, considered essential reading in the field, shows an ecological understanding that sustained Indigenous Peoples for thousands of years prior to colonial contact, with critical information on how the beaver manages water systems and protects communities from drought on the Plains. Morgan's work is a game-changer. For the first time in print, her important research now appears with a foreword by James Daschuk, bestselling and award-winning author of Clearing the Plains , and an afterword by Cristina Eisenberg, author of The Carnivore Way and The Wolf's Tooth . "Morgan's work takes archaeological interpretations beyond basic descriptions of past technologies and foodways to considerations of how Indigenous Plains Peoples interacted with and maintained their lands-and why they occupied their lands as they did. Further, Eisenberg's final chapter brings Morgan's work into a contemporary context."- David Meyer , Professor Emeritus, Department of Archeology and Anthropology, University of Saskatchewan "An important book. The detail on beaver habitat manipulation...is rich and nuanced and cannot be found elsewhere."- Norman Henderson , author of Rediscovering the Great Plains

George Gerbner's cultivation theory provides a framework for the analysis of relationships between television viewing and attitudes and beliefs about the world. Since the 1970s, cultivation analysis has been a lens through which to examine television's contributions to conceptions of violence, sex roles, political attitudes and numerous other phenomena. Hundreds of studies during this time have (mostly) found that there are relationships between television exposure and people's worldviews, but important questions remain: just how big are these relationships, are they real, are some people more vulnerable to them than others, do they vary across different topics, and will we continue to find them in new media environments? In this collection of nineteen chapters, leading scholars review and assess the most significant developments in cultivation research in the past ten years. The book highlights cutting-edge research related to these questions and surveys important recent advances in this evolving body of work. The contributors point us toward new directions and fresh challenges for cultivation theory and research in the future.
Not very long ago, the uninhibited use of mathematics in the development of software was regarded as something for academics alone. Today, there is moreand more interest from industry in formal methods based on mathematics. This interest has come from the success of a number of experiments on real industrial applications. Thus, there is not only a belief, but also evidence, that the study of computer programs as mathematical objects leads to more efficient methods for constructing them. The papers in this volume were presented at the Second International Conference on the Mathematics of Program Construction, held at St. Catherine's College, Oxford, June 29 - July 3, 1992. The conference was organized by the Oxford University Programming Research Group, and continued the theme set by the first - the use of crisp, clear mathematics in the discovery and design of algorithms. The second conference gives evidence of the ever-widening impact of precise mathematical methods in program development. There are papers applying mathematics not only to sequential programs but also to parallel and on-current applications, real-time and reactive systems, and to designs realised directly in hardware. The volume includes 5 invited papers and 19 contributed papers.
In Argentina, tango isn't just the national music it's a national brand. But ask any contemporary Argentine if they ever really listen to it and chances are the answer is no: tango hasn't been popular for more than fifty years. In this book, Morgan James Luker explores that odd paradox by tracing the many ways Argentina draws upon tango as a resource for a wide array of economic, social, and cultural that is to say, non-musical projects. In doing so, he illuminates new facets of all musical culture in an age of expediency when the value and meaning of the arts is less about the arts themselves and more about how they can be used. Luker traces the diverse and often contradictory ways tango is used in Argentina in activities ranging from state cultural policy-making to its export abroad as a cultural emblem, from the expanding nonprofit arts sector to tango-themed urban renewal projects. He shows how projects such as these are not peripheral to an otherwise "real" tango they are the absolutely central means by which the values of this musical culture are cultivated. By richly detailing the interdependence of aesthetic value and the regimes of cultural management, this book sheds light on core conceptual challenges facing critical music scholarship today.

These are the highlights of the accomplishments from the Administration of President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney. "I've been witness to the character of the people of America, who have shown calm in times of danger, compassion for one another, and toughness for the long haul. All of us have been partners in a great enterprise." President George W. Bush
Our success in preventing future terrorist attacks depends upon our ability to gather, analyze, and share information and intelligence regarding those who want to attackus, the tactics that they use, and the targets that they intend to attack. Our NationalStrategy for Combating Terrorism, issued in September 2006, recognizes that the War on Terroris a different kind of war, which requires a paradigm shift and the application of all elementsof our national power and influence. The intelligence and information sharing structures thatonce enabled the winning of the Cold War now require greater flexibility and resilience toconfront the threats facing our Nation from a transnational terrorist movement determinedto destroy our people, our freedoms, and our way of life.
