Metaphors in audiovisual media receive increasing attention from film and communication studies as well as from linguistics and multimodal metaphor research. The specific media character of film, and thus of cinematic metaphor, remains, however, largely ignored. Audiovisual images are all too frequently understood as iconic representations and material carriers of information. Cinematic Metaphor proposes an alternative: starting from film images as affective experience of movement-images, it replaces the cognitive idea of viewers as information-processing machines, and heals the break with rhetoric established by conceptual metaphor theory. Subscribing to a phenomenological concept of embodiment, a shared vantage point for metaphorical meaning-making in film-viewing and face-to-face interaction is developed. The book offers a critique of cognitive film and metaphor theories and a theory of cinematic metaphor as performative action of meaning-making, grounded in the dynamics of viewers' embodied experiences with a film. Fine-grained case studies ranging from Hollywood to German feature film and TV news, from tango lesson to electoral campaign commercial, illustrate the framework's application to media and multimodality analysis.

Im Professionalitatsdiskurs der Sozialen Arbeit sind mit dem Gegenstand "Organisation" bzw. dem Verhaltnis von Professionalitat und Organisation nach wie vor offene Fragen verbunden. Die Moeglichkeiten professionellen Handelns in modernen Dienstleistungsorganisationen werden kritisch hinterfragt. Die Bewertung der Passung von Organisationsstruktur und professionellem Handeln hangt dabei von dem jeweils vertretenen Verstandnis von Organisation und von Professionalitat ab. Welche Konstellationen, Probleme und Entwicklungen konnen Professionalitat in der Sozialen Arbeit einschranken oder bedrohen? Aus der Breite des gesamten Handlungsfeldes werden Beispiele gezeigt, in denen problematische und letztlich storende Auswirkungen auf professionelles Handeln festzustellen sind. Im deutschsprachigen Raum wird seit Jahren kontrovers uber unterschiedliche Positionen zur Professionalisierung und Professionalitat Sozialer Arbeit diskutiert. Der Band stellt diese Debatten exemplarisch dar. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage, welche Bedeutung diese fur die Theoriebildung, die Praxis sowie die Aus- und Fortbildung Sozialer Arbeit hatten und haben.

Silke Muller-Hermann geht der Frage nach, uber welche Motivlagen Personen verfugen, die sich fur einen Beruf der Sozialen Arbeit entscheiden. Hintergrund des Erkenntnisinteresses ist die professionstheoretisch begrundete Einschatzung, dass es sich bei der Sozialen Arbeit um eine hoechst anspruchsvolle Tatigkeit handelt, die zugleich weder mit einem herausragenden Berufsprestige, noch mit einer hohen monetaren Entlohnung verbunden ist. Die Autorin zeigt anhand von Fallrekonstruktionen auf der Basis vielfaltigen Datenmaterials, welche bewussten und unbewussten Erwartungen, Hoffnungen und Anspruche mit der beruflichen Tatigkeit verbunden werden und inwiefern diese biographisch begrundet sind. Aus einer religionssoziologischen Perspektive wird der Zusammenhang zwischen Berufswahl und (struktureller) Religiositat beleuchtet.

Was ist Professionalitat in der Sozialen Arbeit? Wie lassen sich Formen und Kriterien professionellen Handelns bestimmen? Diesen Fragen wird anhand empirischer Befunde aus Forschung und Praxis nachgegangen. Die Themenschwerpunkte 'Prekare Lebenslagen und gesundheitliche Einschrankungen', 'Jugendhilfe' und 'Genese von Professionalitat' bilden die Grundlage fur kritische Kommentare und neue Perspektiven im Professionalitatsdiskurs.

Die digitale Nachrichtenubertragung gehort heute zu den wichtigen Wachstumsbranchen. Um die Mobilitat des einzelnen noch weiter zu erhohen, werden z. B. Sprache oder Bilder in digitaler Form auch uber Funkstrecken zu den mobilen Empfangern ubertragen. Bereits vorhandenen Funkdiensten wie D-Netz, E-Netz, Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) oder Digitales Satelliten Radio (DSR) werden weitere folgen. Datenfunkstrecken sind sehr fehleranfallig; auch das Funkkanalverhalten kann sich aufgrund der Teilnehmerbewegung zeitlich sehr schnell andern. Deshalb ist hier die Anwendung von Fehlerkorrekturverfahren unverzichtbar. Das Buch gibt eine Einfuhrung in die Methoden der Kanalcodierung zum Zwecke der Fehlerkorrektur. Ausgehend von der Shannonschen Informationstheorie werden Codier- und Decodierverfahren fur Block- und Faltungscodes diskutiert und anschaulich beschrieben. Es wird eine digitale Ubertragungsstrecke von der Quelle bis zur Senke betrachtet einschliesslich der grundlegenden digitalen Modulationsverfahren. Das Buch ist im Rahmen des MeDoc-Projektes (http: //medoc.informatik.tu-muenchen.de/deutsch/medoc.html) in die elektronische Informatik-Bibliothek aufgenommen worden."

Seit vielen Jahren bearbeiten wir in unserem Laboratorium ein- gehend alle Fragen, die mit der Stofftrennung auf destillativem Wege in Verbindung stehen. Da in der Praxis auch in einfachen Fallen die Bedingungen fur den Eingangszustand im allgemeinen nicht gleich blei- ben, gelingt eine rein rechnerische Behandlung des Trennvorganges allein fast nie. Der sicherste Weg fuhrt auch heute noch stets vom Laborversuch uber die "Pilot Plant" zur Grossanlage. Um nach den Versuchsergebnissen des Laboratoriums und des Technikums auf technische Dimensionen ubertragen zu koennen muss man einerseits in den betreffenden Massstaben uber Versuchsmodelle verfugen, die eine zuverlassige UEbertragung auf groessere Abmessungen sowohl hinsichtlich des Durchsatzes als auch im Hinblick auf die Wirksamkeit gestatten, und andererseits aus der Fulle der sich bietenden Versuchsmoeglichkeiten durch Vorausberechnung be- reits eine Auswahl treffen. Modelle zur Durchfuhrung derartiger Versuche im Laboratoriums- und Technikumsmassstab wurden in den letzten Jahren im Fachschrifttum mehrfach beschrieben. Dagegen liegen verwert- bare Angaben uber das Destillationsverhalten bisher nur fur eine geringe Zahl von Gemischen vor. Besonders gilt dies hinsichtlich des Einflusses von Spurenbeimengungen, die, wie wir heute wissen, das Destillations- verhalten und damit die Trennbarkeit in vielen Fallen entscheidend beeinflussen koennen. Zur Festlegung des Aufarbeitungsschemas fur ein neueres Trenn- problem werten wir vor Beginn jeder Wirksamkeitsberechnungen oder Versuche, zunachst einmal alle uns aus der Literatur zuganglichen An- gaben uber das Gleichgewichtsverhalten der im Ausgangsgemisch ent- haltenen Komponenten aus.
